Drupal for State and Federal Agencies / Government
As state governments and federal agencies turn to Drupal as a content backbone, this working group is to discuss best practices, collaborative development and shared resources.
Particularly beneficial would be information on technical requirements for federal government applications including credential management, security, and permissions, and if there are gaps in current Drupal modules to address common technical requirements.
Distribution OpenPublic for Governments and Federal Agencies
Phase2 Technology is working on a free Drupal distribution called OpenPublic. OpenPublic will be a packaged solution 'aimed at forward-looking government agencies seeking to meet the open government initiative’s demand for greater transparency, participation and collaboration.'
Contributed Modules Used by the British Columbia Public Service's Intranet (@Work)
The BC Public Service, an organization of 30,000 employees across an immense province, relaunched its corporate intranet in April 2010. In just 50 working days from development to production, a tiny team built an interactive intranet to support employee communications and collaboration. This work was completed within the existing site budget using an open-source platform.
These are some of the modules we used:

Drupal for Law Enforcement
I just finished completing an intranet site for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, located in Florida.
We are using Drupal to collect intelligence, communicate with personnel instantly, and keep track of daily activities. Our county is divided into five main geographical areas spread over seventy-two miles.
I made a brief write-up here: http://www.radarearth.com/content/brevard-county-sheriffs-office-uses-dr...
More countries using Drupal?
I will give a presentation on the use of Drupal for national governments and parliaments. I did a research this weekend and discovered that recently more and more national and regional governments use Drupal as a CMS. For example the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Poland changed this month to Drupal.

Gov 2.0 Guide to Drupal
A few minutes ago, GovFresh published my new article on Drupal adoption in Government. The article can be found at http://govfresh.com/2010/05/gov-2-0-guide-to-drupal/. While I had a number of folks in the community review the draft, I am sure there are a number of things that are not in the piece which everyone feels are important proof points for this topic. I therefore intend to solicit feedback from the members of this group and will publish the additional content in a follow-up in a few months. Please feel free to share your thoughts here.
NIEM and Drupal
Anybody out there using the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) standard with Drupal? http://www.niem.gov/
Contributed Modules Used by Whitehouse.gov
I and many others have asked for a list of the contributed modules used to build Whitehouse.gov. After it was pointed out to me that David Cole had displayed the list in one of his slides at DrupalCon—San Francisco, I found the archived presentation video, viewed it, and paused on that frame until I had my best guess of what each fuzzy entry said. Then I confirmed names by crosschecking that list against the list on Drupal.org of all modules available for Drupal 6. For all who are interested, this post not only lists these modules but also links to the respective project page for each module.
If you are looking into creating a "Government" distribution profile, this should give you a good start.
Where plans for Drupal 7 are to move all or part of a module into core, I have noted that next to the respective entry. Generally when only part of a module will be moved into core the remaining components will continue to be available for Drupal 7 on the same project page as before.
New York State Senate modules released
The custom modules used to build the New York State Senate's Drupal-powered website have now been released as a contributed project on Drupal.org:
http://drupal.org/project/nyss
I've written a blog post describing the modules and what they do:
http://www.nysenate.gov/blogs/2010/apr/20/nysenategov-codebase-contribut...
There's still a lot of work to be done to improve the code and to make it readily usable on other website. I'm looking forward to seeing your comments, advice, code patches, etc.

Question about Panels and images
Hi,
I'm hoping I can get a bit of advice from the group.
I'm using Panels for the front page of a site currently in development, http://test.gab.wi.gov, and the image I'm using keeps breaking the layout when using I.E. 7 on monitors with standard screen resolutions (for example, an old Thinkpad). Firefox and Chrome work fine -- I haven't tried a Mac yet. Any suggestions of sizing the image or using CSS to control its display?
I'm also thinking about using rotating images on the front page. Any suggestions for modules or javascript to accomplish a slideshow?
System Administrator | Volunteer System Administrators Needed for Democrats Abroad
We are recruiting a team of 3 or 4 volunteer System Administrators to share various responsibilities on a rotating (or time zone-shifted) basis. This can include volunteers who live in the US and are therefore not members of DA but who share our desire to help Americans around the world remain involved in US politics. There are millions of absentee votes at stake, and those votes affect races at every level -- local, state, and federal.
