Developing common code: use cases and ideas?

Hello everyone!

At the recent DrupalCamp UK session on running events with Drupal, the current state of things was awarded a resounding 3/10.

Several of us agreed that we should aim to work together to produce reusable, generic modules, rather than keep building one-shot sites.
Obviously this requires more effort and organization, but the benefits are considerable :)

So to get the ball rolling: what do we need from event sites? What use cases do we have? What do we need to consider?

Wastelands: Let's start thinking about use cases and spec

So I'm at DrupalCamp UK and the topic of this site has come up again.
Lots of developers mention cool modules they've written in-house but aren't releasing because they're too specific to their projects or too raw for a release.

A space where these could be released without too much expectation would mean the next person who needs this feature doesn't reinvent the wheel, but instead can give some time to pushing the code a little more towards being generic and ready for release.

So let's think about use cases for the Wastelands and the spec we'd need.

Is there going to be pre-planned sessions, in different tracks, or will it be a kind of free for all?

Is anything happening with this? None of the pages seem to have been updated in ages.

psipi@drupal.org - Fri, 2009-02-27 10:20

They've announced a Drupal Con coming to Paris in 2009..
so close.. would be good to get a teaser for that at Drupal Camp..
and likewise to do something in UK around the same time.. maybe for less technical people..

Lots of cool things happenings, suggest we schedule time for online conf to introduce everyone and see what's going on.. Dan..
any timeline?

The Simple Idea.. we want your recipes..

public
psipi@drupal.org - Wed, 2009-02-25 13:19

One idea we've had is to offer people "Drupal ready to go"..
ie all the modules, settings configured.. so all you have to do is login and get creating content..

We're also going to use it for all the workshops, etc..

We've added a proposal here - http://groups.drupal.org/node/19479

Take a look, give us your feedback, and if you like the idea, please signin/register then vote..
It really is a case.. of if you don't speak now.. it won't happen.

We'd also love to find people what can supply "recipes".. or that have wishlists.

Drupalcamp Manchester

galooph - Fri, 2008-10-03 08:45

I'm in the process of looking for sponsorship and a suitable venue in Manchester for a Drupalcamp. I'm aiming to make it a two day event, but other than that, I'm after some input on the format and content.

So, what would you like to see at your ideal Drupalcamp Manchester? Who would you like to see talk? What topics are you most interested in? Would you prefer to see talks, workshops or a mix of the two? I'm open to ideas, so please fire away and help make Drupalcamp Manchester an event to remember :-)

ok, I have just noticed galooph has setup the DrupalCampUK group. Don't know if they have one planned or just setup the group for fun, but we should have one.

My criteria:
- Must be on a weekend so all can attend.
- Must be in a good location.
- Must have Wi-Fi access.

So where to we go now.
