Creating a Tanaka Award Poll

  1. Create a 'Range Poll'
  2. Set Range Question to a suitable title for the poll, such as '2010 SMEP Tanaka Award'
  3. Open the 'Menu Settings' and select the appropriate Parent Item (likely 'Nominations and Ballots'
  4. In the description field, enter appropriate text to describe the Tanaka award poll, such as listing the voting dates.
  5. Enter the nominees into the Poll Choices area of the page. While the viewable area is only so big, you can continue to add text to complete each nominee.
  6. Do not check the Allow nominations for this poll option.
  7. Choose appropriate dates for (voting) Starting Date and (voting) Ending date. Start times are based on 00:00 while end-times are based on 23:59 of the server's time zone.
  8. Do not select Allow users to cast a write-in vote
  9. Save the Poll
  10. After the poll has been saved, click the 'Edit' link at the top of the page.
  11. Select the number of votes you'd like to allow each voter to cast via the Maximum choices drop-down menu.
  12. Save the Poll again

Preparing the poll

You may want to prepare this poll as the year goes on, allowing you to capture nominees throughout the year. If you keep the poll 'Unpublished' you need not worry about the members visiting the poll prior to the voting period you've assigned.
