Politika Theme: Help design a free GPL Drupal theme

    Hello theme designers/developers/users.

I would like to ask if anyone is interested in contributing to discussions about a new free Drupal theme. It is similar to some projects for getting new themes in core but instead of a community-designed theme directly for core (like Bartik) I think it would be better to just have it in contrib.

If you are interested please check out this blog post: http://www.sooperthemes.com/drupal-blog/project-politika-help-design-fre...

    Thanks!

LinkedIn Group to connect Open Source Developers with Interaction Design Specialists

As some of you who were in the usability group in Early 2008 may know, I was a part of the Vertical Tabs interface pattern design process.

I've started a LinkedIn group to connect developers in Open Source Initiatives (such as Drupal) with Interaction Design specialists:

Thoughts on having CMS Environments in Drupal?

I've been thinking of a way to integrate multiple types of UIs shared amongst modules without forking Drupal or creating new install profiles for every different UI to be used in Drupal.

Unix has GNOME and KDE to solve the differing interface requirements of applications. Some applications depend on the richness that KDE brings to the table while some applications are better suited to the less resource intensiveness of GNOME. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/kdegnome has more details

    IxDA Fundraiser

    Hello IxDA fans,

As you might know, IxDA has selected Drupal as the technology platform for our next-generation website. Today is the last day of the IxDA fundraiser, where IxDA is seeking to raise funds to support developing this new platform that will provide our community with improved infrastructure and a host of new features to connect and support IxDA's local and global networks. We are a unique organization with totally free and open membership, which is one reason the open-source world of Drupal was so appealing to us.

    Thanks for the group

    Hi folks,

I'm embarrassed to admit I just found out about this group from Dries Buytaert's posting about IxDA's choice of Drupal as our next-generation platform. :) Thanks for setting it up and letting IxDA types chat with the Drupal community here!

Let me know if I'm off-base in what this group can do, and if this group is envisioned to deal with the larger topic of IxD (interaction design, the discipline), rather than the scope of concerns of IxDA (the Interaction Design Association, a non-profit group devoted to advancing the profession of IxD).

The Audience Matrix Evolves (and how you can play at home)

We've just added a new video to the YouTube Channel which we refer to in this post - check it out now:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShBPEL_ckJw

Over the past week or so Mark and I have been working out the details that go on the panels of the Audience Matrix that we shared with you last week (http://www.disambiguity.com/understanding-our-audience-part-1-drupal7-ux...) (or dress-up-doll document as it has otherwise been named). We’ve made a few changes and added a bunch of definitions.

Here’s what we’ve come up with so far:

Introducing Interaction Designers to the Drupal Community and the Community Design Process

This post is meant to provide some initial pointers to the drupal community and its "ecosystem", for the interaction designers / ixda folk who have just joined us here.

Experiences on Collaborating with the Drupal Community

Two fellow designers, Leisa Reichelt and Mark Boulton, were hired in August 2008 by the Drupal Association to work with the Drupal community on the redesign of the project's home, drupal.org.

Design Patterns / Drupal Interface Guidelines

While Drupal's core culture is rooted in open source development, and is clearly developer-centric, the community at large is well aware of the importance of design and usability best practices.

Several rounds of formal lab usability testing have been conducted. Have a look at some initial results from usability testing.

The community, most notably the usability group, is working hard on paving the road to better usability.

Several initiatives are underway, for example:

Please don't hesitate to jump in and contribute, especially if you have expertise in the area! :-)

Help to Shape the User Experience of the Drupal-based Networking Platform

The Interaction Designers' Association (IxDA) has recently selected Drupal as a base for their website redesign and their Interaction Designers' Network project. In a first step, the new platform will likely comprise local groups, an events calendar, member profiles and improved discussion tools. In short, everything that is available here on groups.drupal.org today (albeit in basic form). :-)

Therefore, any Interaction Designers / IxDA members who would like to get first hand experience of what functionality currently exists in Drupal Groups, feel free to join the group and have a look for yourself.

Anyone new to groups.drupal.org, please do comment on your initial experience here.
