Large Scale Drupal (LSD) - Projects and Plans

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Large Scale Drupal is a program run by Acquia's Office of the CTO. We work with large organizations where Drupal is of high strategic importance. Most of these companies are pushing the limits of Drupal and its capabilities.

It is clear that these organizations have something to contribute to the development of Drupal. Large Scale Drupal is a program dedicated to providing a forum for these organizations to collaborate around major issues they'd like to resolve in Drupal, and then work within the community process to realize these objectives. Through this program, large organizations will be able to contribute both ideas and resources to projects via the community.

Specifically, this group is used to present proposals selected by the group that represent large problems that each organization is willing to put resources toward. We'd like to start a discussion of these issues in the community to find out if the ideas have merit, and how we would approach solutions to these problems (cross posting where necessary).

Drupal.org migrates to Fastly's real-time CDN; Hear all about it this Thursday at the Drupal 8 Release Party: Los Angeles

Just in time for the expected increase in traffic to coincide with the release of Drupal 8, all the content and files on Drupal.org have been migrated to Fastly!

Joshua Mitchell (joshuami), CTO of the Drupal Association, just posted this great writeup a few days ago:

We are so stoked to announce our partnership with Fastly. Fastly is now serving up all of our traffic from the *.drupal.org domain Drupal sites and related services.

Fastly will be at the Drupal 8 Release Party: Los Angeles this Thursday to demonstrate their real-time CDN, how to integrate it with Drupal (both Drupal 7 & Drupal 8 are supported), and to answer any of your questions.

Their presentation will be streamed via Zoom. Please be sure to have Zoom installed and stay tuned to @GLADrupal on Twitter for the video conferencing information.

Integration Testing Framework for Drupal

We have created an integration testing framework for Drupal based on PHPUnit. It simplifies creating and maintaining integration tests for Drupal. It understands Drupal so a lot of tedious tasks are done by it in the background and the developer can concentrate on just testing business logic.

LSD - Features and Key aspects

I was just thinking through while building large scale application on top of Drupal on dealing with below aspects..

  • Multisite with Multiple countries and languages. (1 site with 4 countries, each country with 4-5 languages)
  • Data import capability for dumping data from external sources via CSV/xls/sql etc
  • 3rd party mash-ups integration (say Amazon, iTunes, Soundcloud etc)
  • SAP system integration
  • End to end CRM application
  • B2B features with -E-commerce support

If we are going to have single Drupal code base and porting all of them on one side, how much Drupal can sustain.

Question about a Large Scale Drupal Mailing List or Group

I apologize if this is not an appropriate forum for this, please let me know if this is the case.

Is there a decent Large Scale Drupal mailing list or group? This group seems close, but it's got (Projects and Plans) in the title which suggests to me that it's more about event planning.

I'm less interested in events, and more interested in simply hearing what other people think who feel they have large drupal installations that require all the types of solutions that those big types of sites require. Most of all what they did to get them to work :)

LLC or S-Corp for individual consultant?

Realizing that I'm unlikely to get professional legal advice, I was just wondering what choices other consultants have made.

For my current role, I need to incorporate. I am providing Web Development and Drupal consulting under contract.

So far I am planning to create an S-Corp since I would be the sole shareholder/employee.

Also, I plan to incorporate in NJ where I live - I am working for a company in NYC with its corporate HQ in GA.

Any thoughts?

Big Data Drupal with Cloudera, Hadoop, MapReduce, Nutch and Solr

thanks to the recent work of the Solr Nutch sandbox project I've managed to get Nutch 1.6 jobs to run on a Cloudera CDH3 4 node cluster sending results to Solr 3.6.2 (hosted within Tomcat on Aegir BOA) and then integrated into the Apache Solr 7.1.1 module (not the dev) into search results and Apache Solr Views

I must say, I am pretty excited about Hadoop / Cloudera running Nutch and Solr and integrating with Drupal

for anyone interested in setting up a Cloudera cluster I recommend masterschema (centos) and Gregory Grubbs on YouTube (debian)

I'll post some notes etc ASAP

Advanced frontpage node adminstration module - a proposal

We at Aller Media in Norway are implementing Drupal7 on some of our high traffic sites and we have the need for an advanced frontpage node administration module.

We have this functionality in our legacy CMS we developed in-house, and we plan to port this functionality to Drupal. I have researched quite a bit on this topic and have not found such existing functionality in Drupal. Although it could be hacked together with existing modules like Nodequeue/Draggable views, Scheduler, Views, Blocks and the Dashboard, it still does not satisfy the requirements.

Here is our requirement:

Large Scale Drupal Track on DrupalCon Sao Paulo

The first DrupalCon to be held outside the U.S. and Europe will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on December 6-8. I’m excited to be part of the Content Team and the track chair of the large-scale Drupal track for this important event.

It’s the first time this topic has been included in its own track at a DrupalCon. I wrote a blog post with the track description, and an invitation for anyone who is interested to present a session: http://devsu.com/labs/have-experience-large-drupal-projects-submit-session

When a large project hits limits

I have a large feature-rich site (I'll call it site 1) that can't handle adding more functionality to it. However I need to find a way to allow 1 type of group on site 1 to have separate instances of ubercart i.e. most members in that group would have a store. approx 200.

I would need the 2 sites to be connected. The admin of the group on site 1 would become the owner of a store on site 2. Users on site 1 can buy on site 2. There would be a few shared tables for roles, content profiles and group node data and members.
