Defining the Media Initiative
What are the goals of the Media initiative?
- Foster discussion, cooperation, coordination, and support of media of files in core, Media module, File entity, and the various sub-modules that integrate with Media.
- Help encourage end users and companies to invest time and support back into the Media project.
Responsive Media
Introduction
Serving the content of a site to mobile devices is more important then ever and a lot of sites take a responsive approach, i.e. not using a dedicated mobile version of the site but instead resize and reorder the content depending on the screen-size.
Using a theme like Omega, AdaptiveTheme or Arctica (just to name a few) you can create a responsive design fairly easily. Images resize nicely thanks to html5 and the same would go for videos utilizing the "video" element.
Barcelona Media Sprint and File Entity in Drupal 8 Core
Yesterday http://drupal.org/node/1597730 was added as an initiative to get the majority of the File Entity (http://drupal.org/project/file_entity) module into Drupal 8 Core.
This is a large task and there is still a lot of work needed between now and the Drupal 8 feature Freeze on December 1st.

We had a, in my opinion, very successful code sprint in Gothenburg last weekend and managed to make good progress on some important issues.
I have now posted a report from the sprint, you can find it at http://www.drupalmill.com/blog/tsvenson/2012/05/summary-media-sprint-apr...
DrupalCamp Twin Cities 2012 - Media Sprint
There's a great event called DrupalCamp Twin Cities going on May 18-19, 2012 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Since the event is fairly close to me, I've signed up to present and also will be organizing a Media sprint on Sunday, May 20th (as well as during the camp of course!).
Agenda
We'll be focused on sprinting for three main goals:
- Accessibility improvements to the Media module
- Cleaning up and polishing file_entity for core (and SimpleTests)
- Drupal core issues (converting file entity to an classed object, file usage system)
- 1.0 release documentation
Sprint progress wiki
We will be using http://lullapad.com/pWGqMEzRKY to track the current issues we're working on and who is working on them.
Time & Location:
We'll start sprinting from 9:30 AM until 4 PM (what time is this in my time zone?). Food and snacks will be provided by our awesome hosts, The Nerdery!

Suite #245
Bloomington MN 55431

Please note that The Nerdery is NOT within walking distance of the University of Minnesota where the camp itself is being held. It's considerably off-campus. Ask around at the camp to hitch a ride – organizers will try to facilitate transportation. The Nerdery has not yet perfected teleporting but stay tuned.
Want to attend?
If you are interested in attending in person, please comment below! Please try to note how you think you want to contribute during the sprint (coding? documentation? patch testing? writing simpletests?).

Personal note from Dave: I'll be offline doing a client on-site this Thursday so I won't be able to attend my own initiative meeting. I'd still like the meeting to continue as expected so that new contributors and those with questions can still have an official time to come and participate.
