Google Fonts is an absolutely awesome collection of web fonts that you may use in your HTML web pages without any restrictions.
These fonts not only look more beautiful than the common typefaces like Arial and Verdana but they are more readable as well since the fonts have been designed specifically for the web. Also, all Google web fonts are offered under the Open Font License meaning you may use them even in commercial projects without having to worry about licensing issues.

Help a Newbie Understand Panels?
I like the demos of what can be accomplished with Panels. The details, however - which include lots of coding - don't seem to fit the promise of a drag-and-drop interface. For instance, I create a panel, but can't view it with the URL I provided. Also, I create a node panel (to adjust the layout of how an article displays), yet the panel appears in the default "content" position of my theme, creating in effect, a node within a node.
Are there any hand-holding tutorials out there to explain the basics of Panels?
Image Captions with Drupal 7 and Views 3?
I'm having a heckuva time understanding how to display captions with Drupal 7 and Views 3. I'm using the default imagfield with the title as the caption. However, when I go into Views 3, I can display only the full content or teasers - no mention of the imagefield's title.
I know this is a constant issue - how are other publishers handling this - and is there a 'recipe' available?

Hello, I was hoping that someone here might have encountered what I'm dealing with and maybe have a solution, or explanation? I submitted my question to the issue queue, but have not received any response whatsoever, so I figured I try here.
I'm using the Realname module for a Drupal 7 site. Basically, to display a user's full name instead of their user name (Joe Choo instead of jchoo) on their profile page. I am using Display Suite to handle the layout of the user profile page.

I don't do a lot of outside work these days -- I'm pretty busy in my job with the Morris Publishing Group -- but awhile back I was approached to do some consulting for a project funded by J-Lab at American University.
Kelly Kline of Atlanta had a small grant to build a women's basketball website that would unite a couple of existing projects and take it all to a new level. The result launched in the middle of last week: http://www.fullcourt.com/
Read moreSchema for News articles?
Hi everyone!
I'm building a newspaper website and am trying to use best practices with regards to metadata and semantic web.
To this end, I'm thinking it makes sense to use some sort of semantic web schema for articles. I've found two:
- Open Graph protocol -- http://ogp.me/ (Facebook-based)
- rNews -- http://dev.iptc.org/rNews (IPTC)
Newspaper taxonomy best practices
As newspapers, we are taxonomy nuts. Surprisingly, there isn't any documented best practices for how to form and use a taxonomy tree.
I am in the early phase of deciding on a main taxonomy tree for 6 newspapers and would be very interested in knowing how others run things.
Some questions:
-
Did your main taxonomy start from a pre-made tree? Associated Press offers one but are there others?
-
Do you include geographical information (State, Region, City) in your main taxonomy tree or do you rely on a set of address fields.
Using OpenPublish for a newspaper site and finding a UK host
I'm looking to set up a newspaper site using OpenPublish, the theme of the site is a user generated news site. I'm a bit confused on how to go about it and was looking for some help.
Firstly does anyone know of a good UK based host which supports OpenPublish installations? I'm looking for one with servers in the U.K.
Secondly the site I'm setting up will have a advertising revenue sharing program and was wondering if anyone knew if OpenPublish supports this - do I have to install other modules to get this to work?
Using the default theme can't get content into 2nd column.
Can anyone explain better than the docs at Openpublish how to publish content into the 2nd column. I can't seem to wrap my mind around it using the context inspector.
The site is on a test server at http://anthemnews4.ittybittywebco.com

Nodequeue type module for users?
Hopefully, this is a really simple question.
I attempted to create a nodequeue to organize users in Drupal 7, but I didn't see "users" as one of the available content types (obviously because it's 'node'queue). Thinking back, I suppose I used 'content profile' in Drupal 6 in conjunction with nodequeue to control users.
How do I accomplish the same thing in Drupal 7? I want to be able to create a queue of coaches (users) and organize them in a specific order.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Joe
Byline Taxonomy
After trying CCK for our bylines, I decided to make a taxonomy term for authors instead. I want readers to be able to click on bylines that lead to a taxonomy page with all of the author's published stories.
My set-up looks something like this:
<?php
if ($node->taxonomy[xx]) {
?>
Developer / Drupal Ninja | Demotix.com
We are Demotix and we are looking for full time developers to become Demotix too!
Demotix (from demos/Δήμος, meaning ‘people’) is a multi-award winning photojournalism website and newswire: www.demotix.com
We've been called "Journalism for the 21st Century" (Telegraph), the HuffingtonPost thinks we "may change the way news is reported", and TechCrunch reckon we're "reinventing the newswire". Another way of describing us is that we're citizen journalism on steroids: truly empowering (and paying for) local story-tellers around the world.
