Hi, I'm David.
Several years ago, I decided it was time to change my eating habits, and lost more 40 pounds, which put me at a nice, healthy 170. Life has gone on and I have generally stayed pretty close to that weight. One year ago my wife and I moved to Colorado, my first big move of my life. Since then, for a variety of reasons, I've gained about 15 pounds. I'd like to take off those 15. I have not exercised the discipline to take that weight off, and I'm not sure that I'm sufficiently motivated now. But with the Drupal community being so important to me, I thought that posting here might ratchet up my motivation. I'm hoping to see some encouragement (nice interviews @christefano!), maybe some accountability too. I'm hoping to see people of many types join in. Not just the naturally athletic, but also those that want to shed a few pounds and get their hearts pumping a little more.
Personally, outdoor activities that I enjoy include cycling (mostly road, some mountain), hiking/backpacking, boomerangs & frisbees. I'm certainly not a master at any of them, and I don't think I've ever used the words "training for" referring to myself. This winter I plan to give cross country & backcountry skiing a go. I would be interested in learning something more eastern too, such as yoga or a martial art.
So, please leave a comment about your (similar?) experiences and goals, or to offer some recommendations of activities I should try, or healthy food & drink I should seek out.

Hi David, I'm not naturally
Hi David,
I'm not naturally athletic. I hate running and never participated in sports while in school or college. Except for some intense cycling when I was 12-19, I've never been active.
Over the last few years though, I've become interested in Parkour enough to commit to at least one hour of 'training' every alternate day. This could be either a body weight workout, or a jog in the park, or training in some parkour specific movements. What's really inspired me is the way in which the really adept Traceurs move, and the thought that everyone should be able to move in that way with some dedicated training. I doubt that I'll ever be as adept as many of them, but I draw motivation from the fact that I want to be able to move in more efficient ways than I can right now. The Parkour community in my city is very dedicated to training, and I draw even more motivation from them when we train together.
Fitness for me is derived from a motivation to move efficiently. More a side effect than a cause. Perhaps if you find something that truly inspires you, you could do it for the joy it gives you, thereby making fitness incidental.
I wish you luck and motivation in your endeavour.
