"amazon" How would you describe yourself as a Drupal administrator?
"interviewee" I am very new to Drupal, so I consider myself very inexperienced but a fast learner. I have been a web technologist for 8 plus years
"amazon" ok
"amazon" How frequently do you administer your Drupal site?
"interviewee" I administer my site frequently if not daily.
"interviewee" I have already created modules which basically tie into my everday workflow.. so I am constantly on my drupal sites
"amazon" How long do you administer your Drupal site in a single sitting approximately?
"interviewee" Depends how you define administration. I create content, fix bugs, etc.. somedays I could sit for half a day, others could be 30min.
"amazon" I use the term administration broadly
"amazon" content creation, to programming
"amazon" but not just using the site as an end-user
"amazon" How does Drupal help you accomplish your goals as a Drupal Administrator?
"amazon" How does Drupal help you accomplish your goals as a website Administrator
"interviewee" I document a lot of processes through the book module so thats really helping me out. I also like to create tools to help myself and my co-workers out so the easy to build modules and the resource of modules is extremely helpful. I would also like to get into more code generation utilities and source code management but for now thats in svn/mantis
"interviewee" Thos are the same questions right?
"amazon" yes
"amazon" Why do you use Drupal?
"interviewee" I use drupal cause I am fascinated by it. I opened it up and was floored by its architecture. The understanding of nodes and taxonomy has really peeked my interest and I am trying to learn those areas really well. I also like how bareboned it is and i can build a site pretty streamlined by using the base plus my desire of modules
"amazon" How does Drupal help the users of your Drupal site?
"interviewee" Also the resource of modules and extending drupal is incredibly easy
"amazon" go on
"amazon" if you want to give some examples
"interviewee" Well I had an idea to help out my users with some simple online clipboard management and I built and delivered the module in about a day which normally it would take a much longer process to deliver in another system due to user management and lots of issues.. Drupal is so plug and play and easy to manipulate once you start understanding it.
"interviewee" Theres an incredible amount of configurability which just makes life easier on me
"amazon" ready for the next question?
"interviewee" Drupal helps the users of my site by making it easy for me to do my job and configure an easy to navigate site.
"interviewee" yeah
"amazon" can you give some specifics about configuration and navigation
"amazon" how that helps your users?
"interviewee" I really like that drupal is so configurable. I installed the simple access module and instantly was able to restrict and unrestrict content and modules for users. Roles gets especially complex when you want to restrict users from small portions of an overall application that everyone else needs access.. I am sure there are other access modules but its the first I came across and its fit my needs
"amazon" ok, so it's features for users, or sped to implement features for your users?
"amazon" or both
"interviewee" However I will say its hard to manage the configuration.. Once you get a handle on things it does get easier and you know where things are.. id rather have the admin confusing and great flexibility than it to be easy to use with limited flexibility
"amazon" ok, that's an interesting perspective
"amazon" ready for the next question?
"interviewee" I really want core to be as small and sweeet goodness as possible.. dont bloat the software.. let me install and stack a drupal site like I want
"interviewee" I can find bloatware anywhere
"amazon" got it
"interviewee" ok ready
"amazon" What are some common Drupal administration tasks that you do?
"interviewee" create content.. manage themes. customize/create modules.. backups.. user administration
"amazon" anything else?
"interviewee" thats all i have gotten into so far.. my site is pretty basic
"amazon" What are some infrequent Drupal administration tasks that you do?
"interviewee" i dont build a lot of content types yet.. i dont use the vocabulary yet.. I manage logs but not really since i expect to screw up.. i dont allow comments so nothing theree.. blocks are pretty much a one time setup..
"amazon" When you administer your Drupal site, you find it is easy to?
"interviewee" I problably dont use drupal as much as I should.
"amazon" there's not right amoout
"amazon" amount of time to use it
"interviewee" I find it very easy to use.. and I love the ability to version content.. I never got the diff to work but its cool to me
"amazon" When you administer your Drupal site, you find it hard to?
"interviewee" there are times i find it hard.. adding content can be a pain since there are so many options.. I wish that was a little more configureable maybe a content profile of somesort would be nice.
"interviewee" also there are so many ways for module owners to put the editing pieces of a module that makes it hard to find where something is managed.. but thats not really drupals fault
"interviewee" things do seem to be scattered and not so logical.. but everyone thinks differently so theres no one solution
"amazon" any else that's hard to do?
"interviewee" admining content types and what that really means is a bit foreign to me still but maybe thats cause i havent had the time to really sit down and understand what i am doing.. I am also trying various modules like flexinode and cck.
"amazon" What are some other important Drupal administration tasks that we did not cover above?
"interviewee" performance is something i am not worried about for now cause since everything is internal.. but thats going to be a major task for me to explore
"amazon" that's good to here
"amazon" hear
"amazon" ok, thanks for taking the time to do this interview
