Still get to the gym 3 or 4 times a week to keep fit but at 54 I'm doing more cardio type training than strength training these days and the INGOTs take up most of the rest of my time.
Jennifer Woodward - San Francisco, USA
- DOB 12/27/1944. Am I getting too old for this? I don't care! Back in the 1980s I was planning to get an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in AI, ITS (intelligent tutoring systems), and Ed-Psych, but got seriously derailed by an unknown worsening congenital heart condition. My aorta valve was replaced in 2000. Ouch! Mental recovery turned out to be slow but got better once I started anti-depressants in 2005.
- Before I knew I needed heart surgery I got a U.S. Dept. of Education grant in 1997-98 to start work on what became the distributed "Educational Operating Environment" (EOE) project. The EOE in part was (and still is) a "middle-ware" design to allow integration of "ordinary" commercial and open source distance learning with AI-assisted human tutoring and artificially intelligent tutoring systems. After surgery I was pleased to find Drupal in early development in 2001 or 2002 and thought it might well evolve into what I envision should be the EOE. I still think that is possible and plan to publish my notes on how the EOE might expand Drupal's use in a distributed environment, once I well learn Drupal 6 and 7 "core".
- I've been a self-taught programmer/analyst since 1964, when I became determined to use computers in the service of education as of my 3rd or 4th month (summer 64). At that time I saw a programmed instruction (PI) program running on a dumb terminal connected to an IBM 360 mainframe in a "shop" nearby to where I was programming an tiny desk-sized IBM 1440(!). Computers got smaller, faster, cheaper. I had a contract programming career and taught programming as well. In 1981 I foresaw the networking of PCs, networked distance learning a possibility by 1990, and I went back to school to prepare for the interdisciplinary "Ph.D" I wanted which did not yet exist. By my 1st BS degree award, 1986 BS/Computer Science with graduate courses in AI, I found myself too weak to apply anywhere "good" and study hard full-time. So I got 3 "lesser" but related degrees instead: BS/Applied Math, BA/Cognitive Psychology, MA Instructional Technology. To my surprise and disappointment no interdisciplinary Ph.D. program to my liking existed in the U.S. in 1990, or 1995, or 2000, and not until 2008! Hence my efforts to start building distance learning related object oriented apps on NeXT computers in the 1990s, when not teaching at our community college. After 2000 such apps had to be done in JS or Java (or PHP); I didn't have the mental focus for that much sustained detailed work then until 2005.
- Since Spring 2009 I've been getting up to speed on Drupal and Moodle and any modules that facilitate distance learning and LMS / CMS (e.g. phpEDU). I also take a few classes across the street at SF State U. to see if I still have my "academic chops" and if further graduate study is still possible and practical for me.
- I've been a member of the IEEE "LTSC" (learning technology standards committee) since 2000. I monitor as-if a senior or a 1st year graduate student (i.e. superficially so far) the proceedings of the International ITS bi-annual meetings.
- I'll do Instructional Design and content development as well as Drupal 6,7 installs and configurations for $$ to pay for upgrading my computer lab. I'll also critically review your educational site or course for a small fee.
- If you're over 50, y'all be sure to get your hearts checked frequently!

- Lenoir-Rhyne is a private Lutheran University of 1600 students in Hickory, NC, USA. We migrated from a traditional Windows IIS/Dreamweaver/etc. web site to Drupal 6 in 2008.
- Now using Drupal 6 in multi-site configuration for university's main web site. Currently building Drupal 6 intranet using LDAP to sync with campus network. We have 35 different faculty & staff editing their own Drupal subsites. I am relatively new to Drupal and doing a lot of catching up, but really enjoying it!
- Also planning to convert my 8-track tape website www.8trackheaven.com to Drupal this summer (2009)!

- Using Drupal 5 in main site that now has 3,700 Vermont student users. Students, grades 7-12, have created strong, civil community of peer-to-peer learners. Mentors and college students provide additional feedback.
- Using Drupal 6 in multi-site configuration to provide Digital Writing Classrooms for schools and after school groups to integrate into curriculum. Grades 4-12. Twenty schools and two after school groups; also using Drupal in collaborative projects -- one on Ballad Writing and another on Comedy Writing that will culminated in kids Variety Show and Radio Hour.
