As a preparation for Drupal training and certification session in Szeged Drupalcon, I proposed few members a quick brainstorming, to try and feel each one's expectations, visions and ideas.

Please edit the node, and add your thoughts inside it. The node should not make sense when it is read. It should be a gathering of un-edited ideas, that will be used as a base for the discussion.

What are the associations, ideas, and possible questions, that comes to your mind, when talking about...

Drupal Certification

  • Adds a dimension of professionalism to the Drupal community, and to those seeking jobs/employees in Drupal
  • Creates a problem for those who don't have it?
  • Allows to distinguish between different qualities of a Drupal professional (Themer, Developer, Administrator)
  • Will it allow comparison between training facilities?
  • Who is allowed to certify? (who's certifying the certifiers...?)

Drupal Training

  • Can/Should be as modular as Drupal itself
  • Can it be an online course?
  • Should contain a maximum of practical exercises

Modular Curriculum

  • Training can be addressed as different aspects of a website building: Media and othe Assets management, Content control, Design, Developing new features, Image Manipulation and Presentation... All to be certified separatly, to combine another certification...
  • Different training facilities can build different certifications, based on different "Training Modules"

Collaborative Edition of Courseware

  • How to credit one's contribution?
  • How to decide on succssful Training Modules? (hint: use Drupal's module's experience?)
  • In the spirit of open source - one's contribution is often improved and expanded, using community resources
  • More active contributors may have privileges

any other interesting subject?

  • Who do you address when marekting a drupal course?
    • Do we market the course as a "drupal" course? thus aiming for people that have allready bitten the drupal bait?
    • Or do we Go out and get'em - Marekting for wider audiences with courses like
    • Building social networks with drupal
    • Building Enterprise intranets with no code
    • Building SEO friendly web sites.
