DrupalCon fitness - report back!

arianek's picture

So... I am curious to hear how much "fit" everyone managed to pack in during the conference! I for one did zero exercise during the actual conference. But... I'm still in Chicago and today went for a nice swim (my first in a long time) at the hotel and then a longish (for me) walk to get groceries. Quite pleased with myself, and I felt great and energized the rest of the day!

Great idea! Thanks for following up and checking in.

A very pleasant surprise for me was the food at the conference. I thought it was pretty good and I saved some leftovers to munch on throughout the day. This really helped me keep my energy up (and my money still in my wallet!).

The biggest fitness-related takeaway for me was that I lost a few pounds while away at DrupalCon. I attribute this to cutting beer out of my diet while at the conference and instead having a slow-paced glass or two of Scotch.

I wasn't at DrupalCon, but I did do my own mild version of exercise for the first time in several days. I "mountain" biked about 5 miles, about half of it up a fairly steep dirt road. Looking forward to the more pleasant temperatures here (Colorado) and better chances for these everyday outdoor activities. It's definitely the little things (such as walking or biking instead of driving to do everyday things) that really make the difference in long term good health. (note to self.)

I made it to Atlas CrossFit.

Atlas CrossFit was OK. $25 for a drop-in plus a t-shirt wasn't too bad. I got there once during the conference.

Yep, I made it out to Atlas

Yep, I made it out to Atlas once, too. I actually paid $12 for the drop in and shirt, so I was pretty happy with it.

I made it to one of the morning runs and Amy A. made it to three of them!

I think it would be great to get this as part of the conference program the next time around. I'm probably not going to London so wouldn't be a good fit to organize that one but would be for Denver.

I lost a couple pounds at the DrupalCon. As Christefano said the food was good and it was easy to make health choices. Also got a few good walks in.

Hyatt treadmill

I stayed at the Hyatt and once I actually found the workout room, (buried in the basement catacombs, strikingly akin to the opening scene of "Raiders of the Lost Ark"), I got in three 5k runs. Kept it low-key due to lack of sleep and getting over a ski injury from a few weeks beforehand.

I would have liked to run along the water but I didn't pack cold weather gear in my carry-on.

I also discovered the Dominick's grocery store on the corner, which had a salad bar, and produce section and was a cheap, healthy alternative to breakfast at the hotel.
