We are looking for an experienced PHP / Drupal developer to help maintain and develop new features for 2 existing Drupal 5 sites and to help develop new projects using Drupal 5 and 6 and non-Drupal PHP. These sites require high availability: demonstrable experience building scalable, high-traffic, high-bandwidth sites is key.

Most custom work, unless explicitly prohibited by the circumstances of the project, can be shared with the Drupal community.

This will begin as a contract position at approximately 30-40 hr / week and may develop into full-time employment for the right developer. While telecommuting is allowed on occasion, you will have to come into our Hoboken, NJ office for most work. Pay is commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with other developers to define site architecture, support technologies, and network configuration.
  • Communication with project manager, senior developer, and designer to help define project scope.
  • Development / coding of entire site, including theme, from design comps. Strong CSS and JS skills required for theming, knowledge of CSS 3 is a plus. AJAX is a large part of the UI for the existing projects, and will be the basis of the UI for new projects.
  • Development of custom modules and customization of pre-existing modules.
  • Development of non-Drupal, LAMP stack applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in CS or related fields.
  • 4-6+ years PHP development work experience.
  • 2-4+ Drupal experience with an emphasis on high-availability, high-traffic, scalable site architecture.
  • Excellent PHP skills, familiarity with non-standard packages and frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of RDBMS, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and database optimization concepts.
  • LAMP stack tuning and optimization for high-traffic applications.
  • Ability to operate in *nix / Linux over SSH.
  • Ability to understand functional spec documents / translate functional requirements provided by non-technical clients / personnel.
  • AJAX experience a must, JSON notation experience a plus.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients and demonstrable ability to work in team-based development is essential.

Familiarity with Agile project management methodology and the Agile SDLC is a plus.
