About River Network
River Network (www.rivernetwork.org) is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 to help people understand, protect and restore rivers and their watersheds. Staff members provide technical and organizational support to river and watershed protection groups across the country. River Network serves more than 700 organizations directly through publications, training resources and support services and hosts the National River Rally (www.rivernetwork.org/rally) each May.
Project information
The River Network website currently sits on three platforms, and is being moved into a Drupal installation. Some pages live on a deprecated, partly functional ColdFusion site. The main site was custom-designed and uses Smarty templates on PHP. New development occurs in Drupal. The goal of this project is work with the Web Team to redesign the website, including appearance, functionality, information architecture, navigation and consistency across sites, in Drupal.
Primary tasks:
• Work with Web Team to integrate results of staff questionnaire and analysis of Web Team into redesigned Drupal website • Work with Web Team to determine changes to be made to home page, main site pages, program sub-site pages, navigation, information architecture and functionality • Work with Web Team to determine changes to be made to CSS and Themes, including position of elements on page, color schemes, fonts, etc. • Assist with developing process to monitor traffic and search engine optimization • Communicate progress and challenges with Web Team and the website developer(s) implementing the coding and modular changes determined through the redesign process.
Qualifications:
Information architecture o Prior experience and ability to guide redevelopment of site information structure Design o Demonstrated experience with all elements of website design, including navigation, functionality, color scheme, fonts and other aspects of appearance o Integrating common elements of design into several disparate sub-sites
Technical o Familiarity and experience with Drupal CMS o Familiarity with CSS o Familiarity with PHP and MySQL o Working with ColdFusion (helpful, not necessary) o Working with Smarty template engine (helpful, not necessary) o Working with Flash Animation (helpful, not necessary)
Other o Ability to work independently and in a team environment, offer and incorporate feedback, meet deadlines and work with a sense of purpose o Experience working with web developer o Strong attention to detail, process and documentation o Strong communication skills, including face-to-face, e-mail and phone
Details:
• Approximately 40 hours will be required to complete project (this figure is an estimate; actual time may vary) • End date: August 8, 2008 • Location: Offsite and Portland office • Compensation: commensurate with experience
