Integrate node.js or ape to DrupalChat, port it to D7 and add new features

Hi

I want to integrate node.js or ajax push engine to Drupalchat and port it to Drupal 7 as part of GSoC 2011. I want to know the views of the Drupal community on this. Will it be helpful? If yes, then I will prepare a detailed outline and post it here. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Also, I am looking for a mentor, who can guide me on integration of node.js or ape. justinrandell has already suggested a similar idea for Chatroom module (http://groups.drupal.org/node/136269). Since both are related to chat, I want to work on anyone of these, depending on which will be more useful for Drupal community.

join forces with chatroom?

i'm the maintainer of the chatroom module:

i'm also the maintainer of the node.js module:

http://drupal.org/project/nodejs

i want to add node.js support to the drupal 7 port of chatroom.

can we chat some time to see if we can join forces with chat for drupal 7?

perhaps a merger of the chatroom and drupalchat modules?

i'm beejeebus in #drupal-contribute.
