Let's get together at Roasters (45th & Teckla) and talk about Drupal!

Since this is the first Drupal meetup in Amarillo that I know of, let's not plan too much. Let's mainly just see what's on everyone's minds when we show up.

I do have some preliminary thoughts on what we could do, but it will really depend on who all shows up. So my preliminary thoughts are:

  • Meet each other. Where do you work? What is your specialty? What brought you to Drupal? What have you done with Drupal?
  • Introduce Drupal to people who are brand new to it. Could include installing Drupal on personal laptops or development sites.
  • Show a site you worked on, and you really like this one feature about it.
  • Show a site you found that's just incredible.
  • Talk about a challenge you had and how you solved it in Drupal.
  • Present a challenge or question you currently have, and maybe we can get close to an answer for you.

Also leave a comment if you think you might be attending, but don't want to officially "sign up" for the event.

meetup wrapup

Seemed to go well. There were six of us. David, Janet, J, James, Sean, and Chuck. Nice number for a first Amarillo meeting.

We talked a little about a couple of sites we've built and reviewed the modules used. We set up a clean install of drupal and overviewed the components, including taxonomy and theming. and nodes. Some people had used Drupal already on a site or two, and a couple had only heard of Drupal before but hadn't really seen it in action.

It was great to see the other Drupal users. As a result of organizing this, I've been contacted by a couple of other Drupal developers in the area who I hadn't met before. It's encouraging to see this level of use of Drupal in the region.

We decided to get together again in about a month, on Thursday September 11 at 7:00. I'll post an actual "event" about that. We need to decide where. Leave some comments here if you have some suggestions. Roaster's was fine this time. Do you want meet there again, or mosy on to another joint?
