Out in the sticks; Where is everyone?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hey Minnesota Drupalers, just wondering where people are at? Maybe we can schedule some meetups, etc.

I am currently working based out of my home near Glenwood, south of Alexandria. I frequent the Fargo/Moorhead area (colleagues, great web professional & technology scene), as well as St. Cloud, Buffalo (family), and I even get down into the cities now & then. I love heading up to northern MN too, and would love to meet some web geeks from that part of the state! Duluth Drupalers, are you out there??? Bemidji? Iron Range? Detroit Lakes? I-Falls? Represent!

Update: cross-posted to the Twin Cities group too ;)

Hey Matt,I'm in St Cloud.

Hey Matt,

I'm in St Cloud. The reason I am learning Drupal is I am on a team to create a new website for my church (the test drupal version is at test.crossroadschurch.info) . So far it's been very good, but Drupal is so deep once you start getting a lot of modules installed.

Right now I'm trying to figure out Views and a bunch of other stuff.

Cheers,
Karl

I'm a relatively new Drupaler in Sauk Rapids, a suburb of St. Cloud :) And like you Karl, I'm on a team exploring Drupal as an option for a church website. We're not nearly as far along in the process as it appears you are. (I think your link should be http://test.crossroadschurch.info, not .com) I've also have a couple club websites in Drupal and my family's blog/photo-sharing in Drupal as well.

I've always been tempted to come to a TC group meeting, but it's hard to get down there on the nights they meet.

contrib modules/themes

Hi, Darren. Your test site looks like it's off to a good start. From glancing at your source I found one thing that you should know about, and that's that you should keep your contrib modules and themes separate from Drupal's core modules and themes. Generally, you should put contrib modules in "/sites/all/modules/" and contrib themes in "/sites/all/themes". You'll probably have to create those directories.

The main reason for all of that is that it's important that Drupal's core components are loaded before any contrib stuff, and putting contrib stuff in those root directories can interfere with the proper bootstrap order. It probably appears to run perfectly fine right now, but hey, it always works until it doesn't.

Also for Upgrades!

[Off-Topic]

Keeping custom and contributed modules and themes tucked away under /sites/all/modules and /sites/all/themes, respectively, is also a good idea for performing upgrades to core. Backup your /sites directory... then drop in the latest core files... then restore your /sites from backup.

Of course, there's more to upgrading ;) see UPGRADE.txt.

[Back On-Topic]
Great to hear from everyone!

contrib modules and themes placed in wrong folder

Hey thanks for the tip on that. I must have missed that somewhere.

Thanks!!

Whoops messed up the address. Thanks. Yes, it should be http://test.crossroadschurch.info.

That's cool that there are more drupalers in the area. I did meet with the guy running the St Cloud Youth Hockey website http://stcloudhockey.com/, and he was very helpful. I don't know how many other drupalers in the St Cloud/Central MN Area. I would definately be willing to bounce ideas off each other. As far as what is on the website is still a little up in the air, we are mostly trying out modules and that kind of stuff.

I have a few sites up using drupal 5.x -- I've become quite fond of gallery integration, which isn't quite ready for 6.x yet.
