We help bring broadband into the homes of low-income people, employ youth to train their community members to use technology effectively, and provide socially responsible media properties that offer a wealth of information on education, jobs, health care and other vital issues. Our Junior Web Developer is responsible for supporting One Economy’s family of web properties ~ a broad role encompassing various aspects of programming, content maintenance and user support. Working closely with a group of highly experienced developers and project managers, this position provides an excellent opportunity to extend and sharpen your web skills in a fast-paced environment for a genuinely good cause.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (only list key duties & responsibilities)
• Develop new (and extend existing) functionality across our web properties, especially our PHP / drupal based sites (www.one-economy.com, www.247townhall.com, www.pic.tv etc) with high quality, standards-compliant and maintainable code.
• Assist in the maintenance of our web properties at a code, CMS and content level; this will range from updating Google analytics scripts through to resizing and uploading new graphics.
• Assist producers in the management of their content; answer questions, troubleshoot, train and support the repurposing of content for the web.
• Squish bugs and respond to email queries from internal and external customers in clear, non-technical language.
• Manage the technical delivery of our email marketing campaigns.
• Compile web analytics reports.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Passion for the web and a genuine interest in the work and mission of One Economy.
• Solid programming skills (college level courses or at least one years work experience) including some experience of PHP (the more the better).
• Experience of front-end coding using XHTML and CSS.
• Familiarity with database applications and a working knowledge of SQL.
• Highly effective communication skills with excellent written English and a friendly, professional demeanour.
• Strong analytical skills, an eye for detail and a commitment to quality.
• Self-motivated, flexible, positive and proactive. Experience juggling multiple projects and working to deadlines.

DESIRABLE SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline;
• Experience with the following
o Drupal (the more the better)
o MySQL (or another RDBMS with reasonable proficiency)
o JavaScript (including AJAX)
o XML and web services
o Flash and Actionscript
o Subversion
o Apache
o Linux/Unix
o Microsoft Office
o Photoshop

LOCATION:
This position will work out of our Portland, Oregon, location.
