As a result of the successful growth of our organization, we are now searching for a:
SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER
You will be responsible for designing and implementing advanced functionality for the organization's public and private Web properties. You will collaborate with other staff from the World Economic Forum in New York and Geneva to define, design, implement, test and launch to production new or improved functionality. You will research, prototype and perform a gap analysis on pre-existing candidate technologies to fill a technology requirement. You will measure and analyse usage data and other data related to the work of the team, to ascertain impact and areas of improvement. You will review the work of your fellow team members and assist in advancing the overall skill set of the team. You will participate in public Open Source software development projects to the extent that doing so advances the interests of the organization. Finally, you will communicate and collaborate with other contractors, vendors and development partners.
Most of the World Economic Forum's Web properties are built using the Drupal technology stack and other back-end infrastructure components are moving to Open Source-licensed replacements. The Forum has no intention of becoming a proprietary software licensing operation and when we need to write code to solve a problem, our inclination will be to release it or contribute it back "upstream". Thus, it is essential that you have experience working with Open Source code and projects, and at least some experience in contributing your work back to a project and collaborating publicly with peers outside your immediate organizational circle. You should also have demonstrable operational experience with high-traffic web sites.
You possess a broad intellectual background with a university degree and a minimum of five years of work experience. You must be passionate about applying technology to enhance communication and collaboration on the major systemic challenges that society faces. You must be able to communicate the details of your work to non-technical audiences, both inside and outside the Forum, which could include public presentations. Strong command of English is required. Finally, you will be expected to travel on a regular basis to events or meetings as appropriate.
If you meet these requirements, please apply to this position through our website: www.weforum.org/careers
