The Drupal Association welcomes proposals from aspiring DrupalCon organizers. The association board votes and approves DrupalCon proposals. Smaller events, such as DrupalCamps are self organized and do not require approval by the association. We are requesting proposals that meet the following guidelines.
* Proposal for a DrupalCon before mid-2008 in North America, second half 2008 in Europe, first half 2009 in North America. Proposals for Africa, Asia, and South America welcome.
* Must avoid major religious holidays (Easter, Passover...)
* Must avoid other major web conferences (SXSW, etc.)
Events
We're compiling a list of events and (bank/religious) holidays which take place during the period we might organize DrupalCon Maastricht to optimize the event's date. The period in which the event will (probably) take place is between August 14 and September 14 2009.
For completeness let's list all drupal and open-source related events and various religious and bank holidays during the months of August and September. Please also indicate what the holiday means for the religion or country that practices it.
Maastricht

* Introduction week (INKOM 2009) for new students in Maastricht is 18 t/m 21 augustus.

Drupalcon Maastricht-proposal overlaps with:
Hackin at Random (HAR) August 13-16, 2009, Dutch outdoor technology-conference International technology & security conference, Vierhouten, the Netherlands.
After a thorough discussion we chose to overlap with HAR as we expect much more simalarity with the indoor FrOSCon, Free Software and Open Source conference, Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Sankt Augustin (near Bonn and Cologne), one week later: August 22-23, 2009.
Regarding non tech events there is the "Festival Zomeravonden", a (mostly free) cultural festival in the ANSI building, about 2.5 kilometers walking from the city center.
There is also a international Jeux the Boules tournament on the Vrijthof (a big place in the center of Maastricht) August 14-16.

There is no overlap with big events like TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair), EFF (European Food Fair) or the Preuvenemint.
