My wife Amy and I are hosting a Drupal for Families event in our rental apartment. Everyone who is bringing their kids and or spouse/partner to Barcelona is welcome to attend. Lets try not to bore the spouses with excessive Drupal talk. Bring kids if you have them!

Check out the schedule of conferences for our next Drupalcon Barcelona 2007. We have 84 conferences on a variety of topics, from showcases to API workshops, for any type of Drupal user, from evaluator to core programmer.

Any one can find a topic of interest at any time. There will be 4 rooms which can hold from 70 to more than 200 people plus 7 special spaces for BoFs. Any attendee will be able to propose a Bof at any time.

Drupalcon Barcelona 2007is now open for registrations, sessions and sponsors. It promises to be the best DrupalCon up to this date in one of the nicest cities in Europe. So please go to the DrupalCon site and sign up!

The Drupalcon Barcelona 2007 promises to be our best DrupalCon ever for many reasons:

Call for registrations

To sign up for the next Drupalcon Barcelona 2007 you need to register on the DrupalCon website, fill in the form under the 'Registration' tab in your account page and pay the fee by following the link shown on the reminder message. Make sure you get a seat by registering as sooner as you can. This way you will also help us to forecast our needs. Note that if you already have an account on the DrupalCon site, make sure you pay as well!

Call for presentations

People that want to present should submit a session proposal (authentication required) at the conference website. The call for presentations closes on July 31, 2007. You have some time but don't leave it for too late as people will be able to vote on your session meantime. As more time you have your session on the website more time will the users have to vote on it and you might get more chances to be selected.

Also, we would like to be able to give some documentation to attendees about the sessions in electronic format, preferentially pdf. Prepare your documentation with time. We would like to have it by September 10, 2007.

Finally, we are organizing a few presentations for a very the lower tech skilled attendees. These will take place on Saturday 22, in the biggest hall. We will have a simultaneous translation service for non-english speakers (Catalan-English, English-Catalan). Think of a Drupal's Showroom, where newcomers to Drupal might have a first glance on it: a Drupalshow! If you are a talented pedagogical speaker consider giving a Drupalshow session.

We have opened registration to the web site of our next Drupalcon in Barcelona. By registering at http://barcelona2007.drupalcon.org you will be able to post your session proposals and post in the site's forums. Conference registration is NOT yet open but it will be soon. Keep an eye on it!

Module "Black-Hole" revival

There are a "LOT" of contrib modules out there. Even more so, there are a great deal of good modules that have been neglected. Lets be honest, a developers time is precious, and we all get spread thin and a bit scattered sometimes, and we leave our children (modules) to the way side for other things (like "bill-paying" modules/development so we can eat from time to time :) ).

What I am thinking of is a session of "Module Black-Hole Revival". What I mean by this is this is a chance for the community to comment on the modules they would like to most see "pushed" on, upgraded, looked at, re-factored, etc. that have been neglected or even forgotten, and then perhaps the maintainer and/or volunteers agree to meet during Drupal-Con to make a large push on that particular module.

The key here is "neglected". E.g. OG has an active community extending, commiting and maintaining it, thus I would not consider it a candidate.

I think Drupal-Con is a perfect place for this. You have some of the best and brightest at your disposal for instant feed back and help, and an army of developers to contribute if they get bored and want a challenge.

So, if some are interested, please post a comment; and if enough interest is generated, I'll create a poll of the top 10 or 15 or so and we can vote on those ( and still comment if there is still a strong feeling that others should be included out of the top filtered ones).

I know Drupal-Con is a ways away, but factoring in a developers time, etc. by the time this thing comes to life, Drupal-Con will be here. I'm hoping to go to Drupal-Con this year with a bit more preparation to be focused on accomplishing certain tasks, but still leave room for the "fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants-for-whatever-happends" that I like about Drupal-Con also.

So...hmm..I suppose I should cast the first stone....I personally would like to see MailHandler extended and documented more thoroughly; oh, Case-tracker is sorely lacking some advanced features and has been stale for some time. (this is also me offering my time to develop on it during Drupal con....beer would be nice payment ;) ).

How about doing a joint conference with Open Office in Barcelona?

Some of the Open Office Developers in Barcelona are members of the Catalan Drupal community also and let us know that next Open Office 2007 Conference will be held in Barcelona exactly the same dates as our Drupalcon. (By the way, I like the way they choosed Barcelona - call for locations, proposals and voting. We might use this methode next time?)

We are now talking to the OO catalan developers about a possible collaboration. My thoughts are that this would be a great opportunity to have two compatible open source conferences on the same venue from which everyone could benefit (shared costs for a greater publicity). There might be a drawback: the venue we planned might not be big enough for both events, so we might have to look for another one. That's not a problem but any other venue will not be as nice, suitable and cheap. However I would like to know what you think about it. What are your comments on this? Thanks.

I thought a wiki page could facilitate finding a date that we can all agree on. Rather than having to trawl through a bunch of comments we could collaboratively build a document. Also, I wanted to try posting a wiki page! ;-)

However we are trying not to do so as the idea is to work well in advance in order to have the best Drupalcon ever :-) Feel free to keep updating this wiki page to see if we are in the right way with those days.

Working on a new Drupalcon in Barcelona 2007

I'm working on having this new DrupalCon in Barcelona, next September 2007. So here it is this new group which I hope it will help me out.

The dates I'm working on are the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September 2007 which will give us some time to look around, go to the beach.... Any firsts thoughts on this?
