The World Economic Forum USA is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

Incorporated as a non-profit business league (approved §501(c)6 of the IRS code) and based in New York, the World Economic Forum USA is impartial and not-for-profit; it is tied to no political, partisan or national interests. It is the North American affiliate of the World Economic Forum, a non-profit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

As a result of the successful growth of our organization, we are now searching for a:

Software Engineer, Engagement Technologies

The World Economic Forum USA is seeking a Software Engineer for its Engagement Technologies Team, charged with designing and implementing advanced functionality for the organization’s public and private Web properties.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with other staff from Forum USA and the Forum in Geneva to define, design, implement, test and launch to production new or improved functionality
  • Researching, prototyping and performing a gap analysis on pre-existing candidate technologies to fill a technology requirement
  • Reviewing the work of your fellow team members and assistant in advancing the overall skill set of the team
  • Participating in public Open Source software development projects to advance the interests of the organization
  • Communicating and collaborating with other contractors, vendors and development partners

Most of the World Economic Forum’s Web properties are built using the Drupal technology stack, and other back-end infrastructure components are moving to Open Source licensed replacements. The Forum has no intention of becoming a proprietary software licensing operation, and when we need to write code to solve a problem, our inclination will be to release it or contribute it back “upstream”. Thus, you should be familiar with how Open Source projects work, and have some experience in an operational setting with running or supporting such software.

You possess a broad intellectual background with a Bachelor’s degree. Strong command of English and, ideally, at least one other language is preferred. You must be passionate about applying technology to enhance communication and collaboration around the major systemic challenges that society faces. You would be expected to travel to Geneva on a regular basis, and to other events and meetings when appropriate.
