Hi all,

One of our clients wish to have 'textaloud' functionality integrated into his websites.

Guys are there any open source alternatives for this?

how about building a module with such functionality?

looking forward for all your comments ....

Organic Groups OG with Categories + News + Taxonomy Problems

Hello,
I'm trying Configuring the following scenario.
My website has many groups. Each group has the same content (news, events and publications).
Using Og_blueprints and Og panels I can replicate the configuration of each new group. When I create a new group I have all views.
Now I want that each group when it creates for example an event or a new it assign a category/categories . The categories are common throughout the portal. But when a user visits a group, I need that only see the categories that have been used in that group. It draw the current categories, but when user click one of terms shows me all the nodes of the site related to that category and not only of that particular group.

Thank you very much

My modules are atached

Segregate groups from main drupal site

1.I am trying to segregate og groups from the main drupal site. I have too many blocks on our main site that interfere with og. I have tried page specific visibility settings for blocks, works ok but for 60+ groups it is difficult.

I have also tried disabling "Show blocks" settings, works fine for og_panels pages but the blocks for the main site reappear when creating/editing group specific content.

Is there an easier way to segregate og from the rest of my drupal site without using a different database or subdomain.

How do I get the group notifications block to appear in my og_panels as embedded, page or block? I cannot figure this out.

Thank You for this great new functionality with og

Problem with Categories on Node in multiple groups

I don't know if this is configuration issue, or a limitation of Panels2, but here on g.d.o, if you

1) Have two groups, each with different vocabularies.
2) create a node in Group X, you see the categories options associated with that group, and can happily set them.
3) Use the checkboxes to assign the node to Group Y.
4) Browse over to Group Y, and edit that content.
5) Now you set the category options associated with Group Y (which is fine), and resubmit the node.
6) And finally, when you travel back to the original Group X, look at the node again, it's original category info has been lost. The Group X category values have been reset to their default state.

This is the first real PITA I have run into running BDUG as a virtual subgroup of Bay Area group.

ChipIn started for signup.module D6 porting and other improvements

FYI: I started a ChipIn to raise money to improve the Signup module and port it to D6. The development goals that will be accomplished if we raise the money are: a) drive the CCK integration patch home, b) do everything else needed for a 5.x-2.5 release, and c) port to D6. The ChipIn can be found at the Signup project page so please contribute if you've got any funding to spare and want to help make groups.drupal.org better (g.d.o uses signup) and improve event handling in Drupal generally.

Thanks!
Edit Link for Wiki Pages

I'm building a community site for the Public Librarians and I was wondering how on Wiki Pages, the Edit link is added on Drupal Groups.

It's the link just under the Title that says, "You are viewing a wiki page. You are welcome..." Then depending on whether you're already a member of the Group, the link either goes to edit the page or join the group.

How nice.

Does anyone know how this was done? Is it something added to the theme template? I'm trying to figure out how it's done!

Any help would be appreciated.

Configuring the OG Group Homepage and Tabs

My goal is to create a simple group with a default homepage tab.

My problem is that an anonymous user sees the following tabs when they click on the group:

View, Home, Events, Officers

I have figured out how to make Home the default tab, but I can't make the view tab disappear for anonymous user. When the anonymous user clicks on the group title from the groups directory I would like them to see the tabs:

Home (selected), Events, Officers

(I'm not clear on the reason that the View tab exists, but I think that it is always supposed to show up for og administrators.)

I'd also like just one row of tabs i.e. I don't want "View, Home, Events, Officers" to be subtabs of a tab like GroupName. This seems to be controlled by the menu settings in the View Config (step 1 below). My reason for wanting this is that I hope to be able to clone a simple group site as Jessie describes here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/13337#comment-43300

Here is how I've set things up in Drupal 5. A few questions are embedded in the outline:

1. Created view: og_ghp_filter_list.
    i. View Config
        1) Provide page view: checked
        2) URL: node/$group/home
            a) (at 1st I wasn't using /home on the end. I think I need something there, though…)
        3) Provide Menu: checked
            a) Question: Does this mean that the group should magically show up somewhere in the Navigation menu? (It does not for me, but I might have deleted it from admin/build/menu when I was working on something else.)
        4) Menu as Tab: checked
        5) Make Default Menu Tab: checked
        6) Parent Menu Item Type: Already exists
            a) (don’t really understand this…yet)
        7) Arguments: Group NID is first argument
2. Admin/og/og
    i. Homepage Presentation set to og_ghp_filter_list
3. admin/panels/views
    i. og_ghp_filter_list added to "Organic groups" category
    ii. View Type = embedded
    iii. Argument: OG: Group nid(s)
        1) Argument source = from panel
        2) Required contex = Group
        3) (everything else at defaults)
4. admin/panels/panel-page
    i. Settings
        1) Panel name = organization_homepage
        2) Panel title = Org Hp
        3) Path= node/%
    ii. Advanced
        1) (Left these settings at defaults)
            a) Question: How do the menu settings here interact with the menu settings in the view?
    iii. Context
        1) Arguments
            a) NodeID
                i) (I have "Own Display" set for some other group node types - shouldn't matter…)
    iv. Content
        1) (subtab) Node ID: Organization (it's a subtab because: 4.iii.1.a.i)
            a) Og_ghp_filter_list
            (URL: admin/panels/panel-page/organization_homepage/edit/content/argument_0-organization)
                i) Override title = unchecked
5. Groups > Group1 > Pages (node/93/og_panels)
    i. "Home" page created
        1) Homepage radio button selected
        2) Edit Page (link)
            a) Page Title = Home
            b) Published = checked
        3) Edit Content (link) (node/93/og_panels/10/panel_content?destination=node%2F93%2Fog_panels)
            a) Og_ghp_filter_list
            (URL: node/93/og_panels/10/panel_content?destination=node%2F93%2Fog_panels)
                i) Question: How do these settings interact with the admin/panels/panel-page (4.iv.1)

I have a feeling that some of what I'm doing is redundant...

Groups.drupal.org

Cloning a group and its pages?

Hi OG folks,

I'm using OG to create a hub site with several simple subsites. The subsites will be pretty simple (at least initially). Each subsite will simply have 3 or 4 pages which will use 2 or 3 views. All of the subsites will have exactly the same pages, except with different content.

My need is to make the creation of new subsites as simple as possible. It would be ideal if a privileged user could go to the Groups Directory (/og). To the right of the Join column in each group row they would have an Actions column with a Clone link (like we do at admin/build/views). (Export functionality would be useful, but not as nice from the user perspective.)

The tricky part is what happens when the user clicks Clone. For now I'm trying to keep it simple:

A copy of the group node would be created

The user coping the node would have to provide the new group name via a form

The pages associated with a group would be copied

the copies of each page would preserve the following elements associated with each page

panels

views

views panes data

My imagined process assumes that the views involved use generic filters and/or arguments so the views themselves would not have to be copied.

Are there any tools that exist that do any part of what I describe?

Is functionality similar to this planned for OG?

I am considering an attempt at module to provide this functionality, but since I'm relatively new to OG, I wanted to check with the community first. Maybe there is a different approach to my problem that uses existing functionality?

Thanks for any info or comments!

How to have several managers for the same group ?

I have not found a FAQ on the site so I ask it here.

I would like to invite two people to become also managers of the group :
Problem with Polls

I've noticed a long-term problem with polls on Groups. Once a poll is created, it can not be edited or recategorized in any way or the data for that poll is completely lost. I take personal responsibility for messing up this poll on the NYC site:( I simply wanted to make it a featured post, so I added it to the featured category and hit save. To my dismay all the data in the poll vanished. Can anyone tell me what is going on here?

Initial impressions setting up a User Group with og_panels

Wow. I really love the new panels integration. I wanted to share my quick impressions on using the new features to setup a group for BDUG.

It would be great to be able to attach files to the group node. I created a Map tab with a single image a custom content, but since I could not upload/attach the image to the panel, or the group node, I had to attach it to a random, unrelated post.

It would be cool to have hierarchical groups, so BDUG could be a child of the Bay Area group.

It would be nice to be able to turn off the user image. I made a panel that contained several subject specific wikis, which is extremely cool functionality, but looks a little silly with so many little pictures of me staring out of the page. Also it would be cool to have the "Edit" link show up automatically for embedded wiki nodes, but it was easy to add in by hand.

It would be cool to have have the panel's various edit links on the panel page, not just on the "Pages" tab.

Some of the names are obscure for the content in the "Add Content" popup. Especially in the "Contributed modules" section. I pretty much had to just add them all to a panel to figure them out.

"OG posts by node type or term (titles)" and "OG teasers filtered by type/term" seem to do exactly the same thing, except the first displays titles and the other teasers. Maybe they could be next to each other, and have a normalized naming string.

I could not figure out how to get teasers of upcoming events, sorted in the same manner as the "Upcoming Events" block.

I hope some of this is helpful. This is a fantastic useful piece of technology, and has allowed me to stop maintaining a separate Drupal install for the Berkeley Users.

Paths change when group name changes

I was a bit annoyed to notice that someone had (helpfully?) renamed the Portland group to Portland (Oregon). Honestly it was a good change but the problem is that it broke the URL (portland -> portland-oregon) which we'd just gotten printed on a banner. Any way to disable that auto updating and get our old URL back?

We've produced a few videos at Acquia and would like to embed them in some http://groups.drupal.org groups. For example, one video is a showcase of 35 Drupal sites, another is a video of 50 Drupal newspapers and magazines.

For customers, I've used the embed filter module with a whitelist of video sites. What's the state of the art for videos on http://groups.drupal.org?

Problens with og galleries, and an idea to the use of modules

Hello I'm trying to work with og galleries, but It seems that if have a lot of bugs without clouse.

The idea is that maybe the modules that can no be supported should be no in "Recommended" status. Maybe when a module have 5 o 7 bug open it should not be in another status.

I understand that people maybe do not have time to work in this, the idea is only a way to advice people to use the module.

Does OG_Panel break group RSS subscriptions?

I haven't researched this thoroughly, but it seems that implementing Panel Pages may break (or at least change) their pre-existing RSS subscriptions. I've recently noticed that four of my G.D.O. subscriptions are broken, right about the time that each of them implemented Panel Pages -- Alumni, Churches, Drupal Dojo and Drupal in Education (I implemented three of the four.

Anyone else notice this? Recommendations on how to fix or change the RSS Feeds? Is there still just one feed for the group, or multiple feeds depending on how the views are setup?

GDO Group Page weights not working

This has probably already been addressed, but since I haven't seen anything about it, I thought I'd mention it here.

I've implemented the new panel pages feature on two groups now: Churches and Drupal in Education. In both cases, I've noticed that the page tabs show up in the order I created them, not in the order I weighted them.

Anyone else notice this? How do I fix it?

groups.drupal.org now features Pages, a major new feature added this week. Group admins now have much more control over the presentation of their group’s content. You may see this feature in action by clicking on the tabs in the redesigned Drupal Dojo group, or Los Angeles or SoC 2008. To learn how this customization was achieved, watch this screencast (blip.tv) by Josh Koenig.

Group admins may add as many custom Pages as they desire to their group. The admin may choose her own page layout, and may place whatever content she wishes into each region of the page. If this sounds like Panels module to you, then pat yourself on the back. This feature is a happy integration between Organic Groups module and the Panels module.

Group admins are encouraged to build out their groups using Pages (see screencast), and report bugs or feature requests in the groups.drupal.org group.

Many thanks to Earl Miles for Panels and Views, and to Josh Koenig for the screencast, and to the Post Carbon Institute for funding og_panels module.

Building a groups site - explore the backend of groups.drupal.org

I'm very pleased to hear Moshe will be giving a presentation on site building titled Building a groups site - explore the backend of groups.drupal.org.

Does anyone know if the presentation will be taped and made available for non-attendees to later view online? I've asked a similar question here: Will presentation be available later via video?

(Further discusson on DrupalCon video-taping can be found here.)

Wiki features?

Is there anyway to be notified when someone changes a wiki that you create? Or to see a change log? Without those two features, the wiki pages here are g.d.o are kind of an information black hole.

Select field for exposed view filter

EU Objective ICT-2007.4.2 (ICT-2007.4.4): Intelligent Content and Semantics

The ICT - INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES workprogramme from the European commission has calls for applications that could fit a Drupal project. Especially Objective ICT-2007.4.2 (ICT-2007.4.4): Intelligent Content and Semantics is very interesting, anybody interested in collaborating on a grant proposal for this?

Target outcome
Medium term:
a) Advanced authoring environments for the creation of novel forms of interactive and
expressive content enabling multimodal experimentation and non-linear story-telling.
These environments will ease content sharing and remixing, also by non-expert users, by
automatically tagging content with semantic metadata and by using open standards to
store it in networked repositories supporting symbolic and similarity-based indexing and
search capabilities, for all content types.
b) Collaborative automated workflow environments to manage the lifecycle of novel and
legacy media and enterprise content assets, from the acquisition of reference materials to
the versioning, packaging and repurposing of complex products, including their linguistic
and cultural adaptation to target markets and user groups. Empirical results from the
psychology of human perception and attention will be used to identify salient multimedia
segments and apply summarisation and encoding schemes that will improve content
storage and transmission without affecting its perceptual properties.
c) Architectures and technologies for personalised distribution, presentation and
consumption of self-aware, adaptive content. Detecting and exploiting emergent ambient
intelligence they will use features embedded in content objects and rendering equipment
to enable dynamic device adaptation, immersive multimodal experiences and contextual
support of user goals and linguistic preferences. Privacy preserving learning algorithms
will analyse user interactions with devices and other users so as to update and effectively
serve those goals and preferences.
d) Actions geared towards community building, intended to stimulate cross-disciplinary
approaches and a more effective user/supplier dialogue, and other measures, including
field validation and standards, aimed at a faster uptake of research results. Usability and
technology assessment studies, economic analyses and roadmaps to chart the
democratisation of personal and community based multimedia production and
management tools.

Longer term:
e) Semantic foundations: probabilistic, temporal and modal modelling and approximate
reasoning through objective-driven research moving beyond current formalisms.
Theoretical results will be matched by robust and scalable reference implementations.
Usability and performance will be tested through large scale ontology mediated Web
integration of heterogeneous, evolving and noisy or inconsistent data sources ranging
from distributed multimedia repositories to data streams originating from ambient devices
and sensors, supporting real time resolution of massive numbers of queries and the
induction of scientific hypotheses or other forms of learning.
f) Advanced knowledge management systems for information-bound organisations and
communities, capable of extracting actionable meaning from structured and unstructured
information and social interaction patterns, and of making it available for activities
ranging from information search through conceptual mapping to decision making. Such
systems will exploit semantics embedded in multimedia objects, data streams and ICTbased
processes, and rely on formal policies to manage user access as well as audit trails
in support of dynamic virtual organisations. Research advances will be embedded within
end-to-end systems using computer-tractable knowledge in support of dynamic data and
application integration, automation and interoperation of business processes, automated
diagnosis and problem-solving in a variety of domains. Robustness, scalability and
flexibility will be tested in real-life settings, together with interworking with legacy
systems.

Expected impact
These activities will make digital resources that embody creativity and semantics easier and
more cost-effective to produce, organize, search, personalise, distribute and (re)use, across the
value chain.
-Creators will be able to design more participative and communicative forms of content.
-Publishers in creative industries, enterprises and professional sectors will increase their
productivity with innovative content of greater complexity and ease of repurposing.
-Organisations will be able to automate the collection and distribution of digital content
and machine-tractable knowledge and share them with partner organisations in trusted
collaborative environments.
-Scientists will operate more efficiently by automating the link between data analysis,
theory and experimental validation.

Advanced Poll Module vs. Poll Module

Recently, there was a Poll put up in our local group to select which day of the week to have the local meet-ups. Since the Poll Module will only allow for a single radio button answer ... this brings up the question ... why doesn't Groups.Drupal.org us the Advanced Poll Module?

In my specific example, the use of Approval Voting would have been more practical for our vote than just pick one.

Is there some reason Adv Poll Module is not used? ... or is it as simple as no one has asked?

BTW, count this as me asking for the Advanced Poll Module!

Thanks.

Change "subscribe" to "join group"

I don't use OG, so I don't know if this is a minor change or a major one. But, after reading http://groups.drupal.org/node/6438#comment-20339 , it occured to me that "subscribe" is a confusing term. Calling it "Join Group" might be better.

Type based distinction for events, location information

Currently, our event listing is a flowing river of information and it is quite hard to distinguish between different types of events. I proposed that we add an event type vocabulary, which allows events to be tagged as being of specific type. Let's collect the list we are interested in having for events:

User group meeting

Regional conference

International conference

Virtual meeting (IRC meetings, Drupal dojo)

Training

Anything else I am missing? This would allow better targeting of the entered information so people can subscribe to training feeds, or can get informed about a bigger conference in advance.

Now the next step is to be able to restrict to events happening around us in real life, that is: adding location information to events where it makes sense (ie. everything except virtual meetings). While event categories are easily done with taxonomy, what can we do about location information? How can we collect this to be able to target users with events happening close to them and still being easy to enter? How can we plot this information on a map? Any ideas here?

Is there a "Og Groups" Group?

Call for icons

Hi all. I would love for someone out there to contribute six icons for this site. They would represent the node types in use here.

poll

event

story

wiki page

job

group

I need a small version which will go in each row on listings like on the tracker page. Also a larger version which will go at the front of every node title on the group home page.

If anyone can point me to freely available ones thats welcome as well.

I was looking at the Call for install profile ideas wiki page and noticed it had comments.

While there’s no link to leave the first comment, if you go http://groups.drupal.org/comment/reply/5653/ you can comment.

When I try that with the Unconference wiki page in the Newspaper on Drupal group or the TinyMCE FAQ in the TinyMCE Development group I get an error saying, “This discussion is closed: you can't post new comments.”

How do you get comments enabled on wiki pages?

How do you transfer ownership of a group?

I have an old user account which is the owner of a group and I would like to transfer ownership to my new account. The My Subscription page lends a clue with the message:

You may not unsubscribe from this group because you are its owner. A site administrator can assign ownership to another user and then you may unsubscribe.

I have made my new account an admin in the group, yet no new options appear to transfer ownership. Surely there is a way to accomplish this.

Organic Groups Home does not honor post settings... Does not show pagination!! can the gurus help

I have asked this on main drupal and cant seem to get any answers. Since I am trying to do excatly as this site does hopefully some can help me. I imagine this must be a common problem. But I cant seem to find an documentation.

I cant seem to get pages (pagination) on organic group home pages. I did not do anything special.

Create a type called group content type. no special fields.

Enabled that as the home page. allowed blog and other content types.

When I post I see on the main page that it honors the post settings (I have set it at 3 and it creates pages)

But on the group home page it adds all the nodes that I add for the group they all show on the same page and no pages appear.

please help. One thing i found odd that all the nodes posted on the home page appears within the group node tupe. maybe thats the reason it doest create pages as it thinks it is one single node. But how come groups.drupal works different.

Also i see on the groups drupal page
http://groups.drupal.org/content-construction-kit-cck

on the page above i see the no of nodes different from the main page of drupal.groups.com.

so is there a different place where this is set this up.

I am lost

Was groups.drupal.org built with organic groups?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. Excuse me if it isn't.

Was groups.drupal.org built with organic groups? I believe I heard that groups.drupal.org built with organic groups in a podcast (maybe Lullabot?) in passing. The podcasters were very nonchalant about it like building groups.drupal.org was no big deal.

If groups.drupal.org was built by installing a bunch of modules and configuring them in some way without any "programming" that's pretty impressive. As a relative newbie to drupal but a PhD student in Computer Science groups.drupal.org impresses me if it is in fact easy to build.

groups.drupal.org strikes me as a kind of uber-forum and is much cooler than the built in forums in drupal

if there were a tutorial somewhere showing how groups.drupal.org was built with drupal i think it would evangelize drupal well.

Using drupal itself to evangelize drupal is the most impressive to me. If I go to groups.drupal.org or drupal.org and its slow or has issues that gives me pause 'cuz I figure if the people who built drupal can't get something to work there is a fundamental issue beyond me getting up to speed ... on the other hand if drupal is being used to improve drupal through apps like groups.drupal.org then it attracts me because there is an elegance to it and shows drupals utility

Is there a tutorial somewhere discussing how groups.drupal.org was built or a list of modules used or notes somewhere when groups.drupal.org runs in to security, performance, etc. issues.

I think this info would evangelize drupal well.

Thanks

When Jobs Attack!

When creating a job in Groups, it posts them on the sideboard, and then also places them in the center column. For those of us who create jobs that can telecommute from anywhere, we have to sign up for every local group, and the local group gets spammed in the center column with our stuff. I figure the local groups would rather have the focus on what they are working on rather than a ton of us pounding them with job offers. And we're only allowed to choose 4 locales at a time.

So I suggest the following:
1. removing job listings from the main column.
2. Creating a new taxonomy for development groups vs locative groups (maybe broken down by country.)
3. Allowing job descriptions to be posted across all locations in said taxonomy with one click rather than signing up for a million groups.

OR

have a preference setting allowing group admins to choose wether job listings can be posted to the main section of their group.

Thoughts?

Duplicate email notifications

Right now when a post is submitted to multiple groups and a user is signed up to those groups we get multiple email notifications with the same email. Is there any "easy" way to set it up so there is only one email notification per post and that it lists the groups that the post belongs to? It's not a huge deal but would help when going through emails. :-) Moshe and anyone else, any ideas on this? Is it possible and how much work would it be?

I searched and found a feature request here:
http://drupal.org/node/124252

Enable diff.module for wiki page

Actually, the title says it all - would be great to have the diff.module enabled for wiki pages, and to give the permission to view revisions to all group members. That would increase the usability of the "groups wiki" significantly, as it's currently not possible to track the revisions and changes of a certain page (at least for non-site-admins).

Regional group distribution

With tons of help from glendac and some assistance from simplymenotu, we've created a Google map that plots where all of the local user groups are on groups.drupal.org, along with their size, as of last week sometime.

You can check it out here:

Multiple Group Admins?

One thing that's coming up in the Drupal Dojo group, one of the most active groups here, is the need to start sharing administrative rights with more users. There are times when I'm offline for a few days, and the group could use a administrative assistance. For instance, we're trying to run a new "patch spotlight" feature which involves setting a sticky node for each new patch. It would be great to let add1sun do this herself.

I'm interested and willing to put some development cycles towards this if need be. However, I also have a sneaking suspicion that this might be already possible and I'm just missing it. Anyone know?

How does breaking off into metros affect the SoCal Group?

Hey y'all -

Really glad to see that LA now has it's own group. I was involved in the tail end of the discussion (w/ jpklein), and I'm unsure if the point that mikey_p brought up was talked about. Seems to almost make sense. If we take out all the LA and SD people (from the SoCal Group) who/what are we left with? Not sure if and/or what the proper procedures/protocol are for these types of things....

Feed for new groups

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but is there a feed for the most recent/new groups on the site?
