University Drupal Course
Hello,
I'm creating a web application development course using Drupal for the hand-on activities in the course. Essentially the course is going to focus on trends, technologies, theory, and practice of web development. This isn't a coding course, it is a primer on getting people started with an understanding of current trends in web development. It is somewhat like a literature review of whats going on in web development, so that students don't reinvent the wheel and can do something productive by the time the course is over. Some students may be able to code, but that isn't expected for the course. Most will be taking a PHP course simultaneously with this course, so later courses are going to use Drupal for coding development.
Please look at my topics and give me some suggestions. I would like to eventually build this course out as a public boot camp for people interested in web development. I can actually have my students work on the site as part of the assignment, so we might be able to get some good content out of this. I plan to have them make video/text tutorials as part of the learning process.
I plan to base a fair amount of the course on two texts:
Title: Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations
Title: Web Design and Marketing Solutions for Business Websites (Paperback)
I also plan to use sites like Yahoo Developer, aListApart, others???
The past, present, and future of the Internet.
What are people doing on the Internet?
What traits do successful websites share?
How are modern websites designed?
Web application development tools and strategies
Digital Content (Text, Audio, & Video)
Basic Graphic Design Theory (color & grid)
Social Interaction Design Patterns
Site Navigation & Organization Design Patterns
Search Engine Optimization
Web Standards (W3C) & Accessibility (508 Compliance)
XML, RSS, RDF, Web Services
Support and Disaster Planning
Analyzing and Interpreting Web Traffic
Monetization of Web Applications
Non-Commercial Models of Web Applications
