Dear Drupal users,

I am looking for short, medium and long-term programming / development assistance for an international initiative soon-to-be-launched aimed at prosecuting the United States, its leaders and allies, on charges of the crime of genocide in Iraq.

The new initiative is currently being built offline. It already needs significant volunteer resources, particularly in establishing capacity to provide content in Arabic and Spanish as well as English. There are also significant security considerations that need expert input.

This initiative stems from several years' work on Iraq with the BRussells Tribunal (www.brusselstribunal.org), in defence of the Iraqi people, its resistance and its sovereignty, against the illegal US invasion and occupation.

The BRussells Tribunal works on a zero budget and represents no political party. The International Initiative to Prosecute US Genocide in Iraq will also work on a zero budget and represent no political party.

The basis of the initiative is an understanding that at stake in Iraq is not only the sovereignty of a nation, but the standing and future of international law, indeed of humanity itself. The Iraqi people and its resistance is defending values upon which all our lives depend.

If you share a sense that what the United States is doing and has done in Iraq is intolerable, and that the purposive destruction of a state and nation cannot be allowed to be a precedent for the opening of this century, and if you have programming skills, development skills, design skills and / or security related skills, please write me for more details.

Welcome Email Translations

Greetings,

Is there a translation available for the welcome emails that Drupal sends out? I am using the i18n module and it allows me to change those email messages. I have a translator who will be able to translate them, but if the work has been done already, why have him do it again?

Please advise. Thank you.

Drupal 6 will come with RTL support, help refine that!

Maybe you did not notice, but the latest development version of Drupal comes with RTL language support. Unfortunately it does not go as far as I would like it to be, but Drupal now knows about RTL languages and hand this information out to the theme too. No core theme ships with proper RTL support yet (none of them set the direction on the HTML tag, neither they ship with RTL CSS). I (as one of the guys being instrumental in getting this extended language support into Drupal core) think that the core themes should have support for RTL languages too, as it does not seem to be a huge undertaking, if it is done by people who know what they are doing. This is why I am here to post this notice.

this is a placeholder for our drupal arabization glossary, I've put a list of drupal terms in english, waiting for Gharbeia to add his translations to them, if you're familiar with the drupal 4.7 translation you can edit this page and add translations.

also edit and add any english terms you think should be covered by the glossary.

Translation conventions or rules

Hi,

It's really nice to see some of the old friends around here (alaa , sameer...etc.). I hope you are doing well these days.

Regarding the translations , are there some conventions or rules to follow.

I noticed some words like 'node' were translated in drupal 4.7 to 'عقدة' and to be honest , this translated word doesn't really express the meaning of node. Probably 'مادة' or 'محتوى' would have been better even though that isn't the exact word-by-word translation, It would be great if we can layout some agreement on some common terms between the modules to avoid having different translations for the same word.

I am happy to see a group for arabization, i am from morocco, and i do use most of my website in french and english. I am starting a new support drupal site in morocco, i want to use arabic, the website is located at www.drupal.ma
People here in morocco doesn't use a lot drupal, for arabic its spip, word press, postnuke (with autotheme) that can serve RTL etc

و أطلب رأيكم: إذا كان غرض هذه المجموعة تقديم دعم تقني باللغة العربية، فما إمكان دعم هذه التركيبة لدروبال للغة العربية (التعريب و الكتابة من اليمين لليسار، و تيمة للمجموعة من اليمين لليسار)؟

group agenda

Hi folks,

this group started after an IRC meeting @ #eglug some time ago, but since groups.drupal.org lacked wiki functionality we did not use it for anything.

this is a proposed short term Agenda for the group based on what we discussed in that meeting

Gharbeia is our main translator, he has veto rights in order to have a since of consistency in the translation
other translators can adopt a contrib modules
Gharbeia will prepare a glossary of new terms here on the groups wiki, after an publishing the initial glossary the group is welcom to challenge and scrutinize the translations via comment section, and off course add new translations to the wiki page.
khaled hosny will point out any conflicts between our glossary and arabeyes', and is responsible for trying to convince us that arabeyes' translation is better or convince arabeyes that our translation is better :-) there is a drupal arabeyes project that no one worked on for ages, I think drupal.org offers better infrastructure but if people think it's important to update the arabeyes CVS repository and project news then Khaled should take over that project.
hopefully we can use this glossary to build a documentation oriented glossary similar to http://www.eglug.org/drupal_glossary
we released a pretty good translation for 4.7 including a bunch of contrib modules and 4 RTL themes
work now should focus on Drupal 5
Gharbeia will start working on 5 core translation
anyone who wants to help can pick contrib modules, let's crate a wiki page where we list important contrib modules that need to be translated, this can be based on what members of the group need or what members of the group think is important to provide for others.
there are of course documentation, theming and development issues that we need to cover, but I'll leave those for another post.

So we're finally going to start work on Drupal 5 Arabic translation. the 4.7 translation was pretty good but released near the end of the drupal 4.7's cycle and we did not get a chance to promote it.

this time let's do things right and start translation early.

I'm currently working on merging 4.7 translation with new drupal 5 POTs, Gharbeia should focus on core only for the moment since contrib modules are still in flux and their strings might change dramatically.
