NGP VAN is the leading provider of campaign and organizing technology to Democrats, progressives, and non-partisan organizations, offering an integrated platform that combines the best fundraising, compliance, organizing, and new media products available.

We are a rapidly growing company that built the voter contact and volunteer management tools used by Obama for America in 2008, and we are now staffing up for the 2012 election. Beyond our work with the Obama campaign, nearly every State Democratic Party in the country distributes our VoteBuilder tools to Democrats up and down the ticket. We also provide organizing tools for organizations such as labor unions, environmental groups, pro-choice advocates, civil rights activists, and so on.

Position

We are looking for a Drupal 6 module developer, to develop new custom Drupal modules; read, understand, and troubleshoot legacy code; investigate and resolve bugs; and work together with themers to deliver high-quality, professional-looking websites. We are looking for someone who has good communication skills, can collaborate in a team environment, works hard, and has a good sense of humor. Successful candidates must demonstrate:

  • Skill in PHP programming
  • Good working knowledge of Drupal APIs, including User API, Node API, and the Menu System
  • Experience with Drupal site administration
  • Experience working with popular Drupal modules, especially CCK, Views, Webforms, and Date
  • Comfort working in a Linux environment
  • Experience developing with web services (SOAP and/or REST)
  • Familiarity with MySQL
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JQuery
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work in an agile, creative, quick-paced, and collaborative environment

Beyond these requirements, previous contributions to the Drupal community are highly valued, as is familiarity with VAN, Drupal installation profiles, Aegir, the Drupal Features module, and Drupal 7. Experience with politics, labor unions, or non-profit organizations is also a plus.
While ideally this position is for our Boston office, accessible on the Red Line, the right candidate might also be able to work from our office in Washington, DC.

Compensation

The position offers compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications and will likely be between $55,000 and $70,000. NGP VAN prides itself on being a progressive and open-minded workplace; we have a fun and relaxed company culture, including blowing off steam on a softball field and enjoying annual company retreats. We also have a strong benefits package that includes company-paid health care and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan, and casual Friday every day.

How to Apply

Resumes will be accepted until the position is filled. Send a resume and cover letter, along with salary requirements, to jstgeorge (at) ngpvan (dot) com.
