Hudson Valley Drupal Meetup -- October 13th

Be sure to click on things and read some gotchas, try satellite view too. Destination in green, parking in red, roads in blue.

Plans: This month is a Show and Tell month, so come prepared to show off a website you have done, a project you are working on, a new technique that everyone should now....or just plain Drupal awesome-ness.

We will have internet access, dual projectors with VGA, RCA or HDMI connections available for laptops as well as access to a Mac or Linux workstation if you are nice to Ben.

Looking forward to the meeting. I'll shoot to have a stable release of my node_announce module by then, as well as share a really cool new module I found.

Notes from the Oct meetup

For cool and helpful modules, here is the list of things that came up:

  • OpenID Selector - Module that integrates Javascript OpenID Selector with Drupal's OpenID client
  • Domain Access - suite of modules that provide tools for running a group of affiliated sites from one Drupal installation and a single shared database
  • Module Filter - Why have to search for the module you are looking for in your module list when you can have filters isolate what you are looking for
  • Drupal.org’s new Follow button for issue tracking (utilizing the Flag module)
  • Meta Tags - allows you to automatically provide structured metadata about your website

Miscellaneous conversation

  • Sean showed off Node Announce which he released shortly after getting people excited at the previous meetup
  • Sean also showed that he modified Gallery Formatter so that he could get thumbnails available in a node teaser
  • Vonn showed off a new site she just launched, boat22100.com and broke down the structure she used to get there which includes:
  • Vonn brought up a site she is working on which takes advantage of Nice Menus
  • Jim loaded up his ruby and drush scripts which abuse drush make files and drupal profiles to quickly create new sites
  • Event coordination for 501c3 organizations
  • Linode hosting

Meeting at Vassar College seems to have worked out OK, so we will continue to meet on campus. Jim Kutter has said that he can talk about theming at the next meeting which will be Thursday, November 10th.
