OC Drupal IRC

philosurfer's picture

Hey Everyone,

I have started a IRC channel on Freenode
#drupal-oc

William and John, let me know if you guys want OP.

I will stay logged in all day during the work day and sometimes in the evenings.

We should use this to keep our OC drupalers chatting and asking questions... Lets build the community :)

This would be a great resort

This would be a great resort for drawing in more Drupalers. Well that said, how would I be able to access this IRC channel? I looked under http://drupal.org/irc but was unable to place the drupal-oc node..

Is it not live yet? Would a newcomer need any specific IDs or pswds?

thanks..

You have 2 options

You have 2 options:

A web based client to login or a desktop application. I recommend the latter as they tend to have more features and a much more organized layout.

You can login via the web here: http://webchat.freenode.net/

On a windows machine there are very few free clients, but there are a couple. I use MIRC... it is free to use, but if you want to have it stop bugging you everytime you use it... donate $20... its worth it.

On a Mac i am not sure what everyone else uses, but they can post here if they like.

Using IRC is a little different from jumping into a chat room anywhere else. Mainly because you have to take an extra step or two to get to a room.

First you have to connect to a server, that server will be part of a network of servers. In the case of most Drupal chat rooms, they are all on the Freenode network. You need to pick a username and a login name.. why two? dont ask.. its an IRC thing :P leave any password fields blank for now. Make the username your Drupal username for continuity.

So when it asks for a server select freenode, or enter: chat.us.freenode.net
that will access the main server and find the closest node server to your location....

once you are connected you will most likely get a screen that looks like you are in chat.. but you are not. you now need to join a room or rooms...

do that by typing
/join #drupal-oc

you should now be in the room...
other channels to note..
#drupal-support
#drupal

Welcome to IRC :)

Thank you for the

Thank you for the information..Will need to login pretty soon. My local drupal set up was working fine. All of a sudden now when I start up the WAMP server, and try to access my local PHPmyadmin, it gives me this error:: #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured) .Anyidea what might have gone wrong? I have made changes to the socket settings as suggested by a MYsql forum, yet no use. Seems like I need to re install my WAMP server and start from scratch.

Any direction welcome..
-Thanks

Sorry for the delay in reply

How can one clear PHP cache?

Thank you so much for responding....But I lost my patience and since I needed to launch this website by end of next week, I jumped the gun and deleted the old WAMP server and reinstalled a fresh set up.
But before doing so, I figured that clearing the PHP cache might help resolve the issue. But was not clear on how.
how can I avoid this happening in the future?

getting listed
