After a long discussion with Gabor, we concluded that we should change our strategy on I18N UX focus. In Internationalization UX we noticed that updating is a major headache. After discussion in several issues we found that we can solve this quite easily from a UX perspective.
We believe the focus should be on creating a better on boarding experience for making your website multilingual. Currently this setup requires too many different steps, and requires the user to fully understand the different options presented. These options often are focused on a very small usecase, confusing and frustrating the 80%. To summarize what we concluded:
Summary
- No big issues with multilingual concepts (terms, menu’s, content etc.) in terms of interaction or navigation.
- A few specific issues with configuration and setup of these concepts.
- A big issue, with the setup of it all.
The biggest issue is when you have to setup all the different multilingual concepts, its often a surprise the amount of different modules you need to install and configure correctly.
We want to do a short sprint (2/3 evenings) where we focus on finding solutions to the following topics:
- Improve translation mode configuration for each concept (term, menu, content etc.)
- Design a setup wizard for making your website multilingual.
- Discuss the sets of languages (language neutral for content, English for interface, etc)
