DrupalCon DC BoF on RDF use cases and usage

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
You are viewing a wiki page. You are welcome to join the group and then edit it. Be bold!

As agreed during the BoF session feel free to add your name, the organization you work for and a few lines about your interests and use case of RDF. You're also welcome to add your name here even if you were not physically present at DrupalCon DC!

Stéphane Corlosquet - DERI - maintainer of Evoc, RDF CCK, SIOC. Researcher at DERI Galway, focusing on Semantic Web and Drupal. 2 year experience in the Semantic Web. See also Drupal.org profile page.

Arto Bendiken - MakaluMedia - maintainer of the RDF, SPARQL, and Relations API modules. See also Drupal.org profile page. (Not present at the BoF, unfortunately.)

Frank Febbraro - Phase2 Technology - Maintainer of Calais, More Like This, Topichubs, OpenPublish. See also Drupal.org profile page.

Kristof Van Tomme - Pronovix - Semantic web thunderlizard working on practical solutions that use semantic technologies from the project manager perspective. We've got some few posts on Semantic use cases on our blog.
Interests:

  • Propagating data updates automatically between aggregators of industry information (e.g. company > local association > national association > international association) in particular for the biotech industry
  • Unobtrusive integrated knowledge management that links up individuals > organizations > community
  • Systems that generate RDF Schema vocabularies as byproducts
  • Drupal media aggregation and distribution service
  • Semantic data visualization technologies (e.g. Freemind for personalized semantic graph subsets)

Roel De Meester - Krimson - Investigating the needs for a government funded project to open the archives of national broadcast company and flemish library and theatre institutes. It's a continuation of http://www.conference.bom-vl.be/ in which RDF and SPARQL and LinkedData will take a central role. Drupal will be used as the central front-end to query billions of meta-data enriched media files (video, photo, pdf ...)

Ludovico Fischer. I am looking for a way to organize and query a large (4000+ items) collection of resources related to Italian technical writing and translation.

Julia Kulla-Mader - Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education - Interested in organizing 1000s of resources related to sustainability in higher education and in using RDF to share and develop standards for university climate data sharing.

Rolf Guescini - Cerpus - I have been working with hyper text and semantic web at the University of Oslo for many years, especially with Topic Maps. Seeing that Topic Maps have been a great tool for implementing learning applications as well as for individual learning I am very interested in keeping Topic Maps as a piece in the semantic web jigsaw. Our company function as consultants for a state-funded project for Open Source and free learning resources in Norway. This project is based on Drupal (http://fag.utdanning.no), and will eventually be using semantic web technologies for the structuring, export, and import of content, and thus we are of course interested in contributing to the development of semantic web technology in Drupal. I have always advocated that topic Maps and RDF should live together an play complementary roles on the web, and thus I am now looking into implementing Topic Map concepts through the use of RDF.

Lin Clark - University of Pittsburgh, University Marketing Communications - I am currently working on a project for my Masters degree that would expose faculty, course, and publication information as RDF. I hope to use this as a proof of concept and get my employer (which is the same University that I am attending) to adopt this plan as we develop new school and department sites, keeping all data in centralized repositories that are then queried by the different subdomains. I am currently looking at using Talis's AIISO and Participation vocabularies and at FOAF and Dublin Core. Suggestions and comments are welcome, thanks!
