Austin Meetup on Wed, 3/25/09, 6:30-8:45 pm @ Terrazas Branch library

What
It's time for another Austin Drupal Users Group Meetup! Several people have suggested that we devote some time specifically to beginner topics. With that in mind, let's try devoting the first 45 minutes to an hour on a beginner topic. Any suggestions?
Also, let's try to have some specific intermediate to advanced presentations scheduled. If you're comfortable presenting, please reply with a topic or topics that you would be interested in covering and approximately how much time you would need for each. If we have more topics than we have time for, we can spread them out over future meetings. If there are any specific topics you'd like to see presented, please post those too.

beginner topics
I've been using Drupal for about a month now and would love some suggestions on some specific issues. This may or may not be the kind of thing you're looking for but here you go:
user profiles and node specific permissions
calendaring with anonymous event posting
3rd party user authentication
cross-referencing using CCK fields
downloadable event registration information
Thanks in advance!
CCK Coverage
I have a 30-40 minute presentation already prepared for a different training class that I can go over at the user group meeting.
It covers...
Installing the base CCK module as well as several helper modules
Adding fields to the Page content type
Managing the fields display
Building a New Content type with CCK fields
Applying Content Templates
Building Page and Block Views of CCK fields and the importance of filters
If there are enough people interested in me doing this, I would be more than happy too.
Thanks

A beginning
Sounds like this would be a great place to start. We could build from here at subsequent meetings perhaps?
It would be neat to make the whole ADUG experience a bit more hands on.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a great way to
Sounds like a great way to get started ... Compound CCK Fields might something neat to follow up on if anyone has any experience with them.
Most Definitely a Yes Vote here
I have several new Drupal coders I'll bring.
Thumbs up!
Great topic. I'll be interested to see if there are some shortcuts that I'm missing!

I'm there
Great idea. Would love to see how CCK and Views are implemented - especially interested in creating some custom story node views, I'm sure it's easy, but can't quite figure out how to do it.

RE: I'm there
Incoming storm forced me to look after cats'n'dogs. I'll have to catch it next time... sorry y'all.
we turned tail and ran
we'll be back next time and will chip in to cover the projector rental.
But hail hath no fury like Austin hail, so we turned tail and ran back to Alamo town.

OK, I cleared another conflict I had so see y'all soon!
I had another meeting that was conflicting with this one but I'm all set to attend this one and learn more about Drupal.
This sounds like a great meetup and I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks to the organizers and presenters!!!

projector anyone?
I'm not going to be able to make it to tonight's meeting. Is there a chance anyone else might be able to provide, borrow, or otherwise bring a projector the to meeting tonight?
Thanks,
Matt
I will bring one -
I'm having to rent it for $75, so I hope the meetup actually happens! :)
Free projector found
I just found one I can borrow if you have not rented one yet.
Too Late - :*(
I rented one, but go ahead & bring yours as a plan b - mine is a 4000 lumin, so it will work well with the lights up or down.
:( not able to make it
Big storm came in just as I was getting ready to leave. Need to stay and take care of cars and house here. Looking forward to reports! See you next month or might head down for the SA meeting next week.
Happy day,
Anne

Wow, great meetup!
Thanks to everyone for the very helpful session and a very special thanks to Selwyn for stepping up and doing a fantastic job showing everyone CCK and Views!!!! I really enjoyed following along as Selwyn took suggestions from the audience and integrated the suggestions into a CCK and Views demo. It was very informative and easy to follow... well, most of it anyway but any parts I didn't fully understand were due to my tech limitations and not due in any way to Selwyn.
Another very special thanks to Terry for bringing a rented projector and to Matt for setting up the meetup to begin with.
Let's skip the hail storms and wicked rain and wind next time. ;)
