Position Description:
As a member of the IT group at the School of Social Work, the Web Computing Specialist will provide technical and pedagogical consulting, training, and project support to assist faculty and staff to effectively integrate electronic tools and materials into their teaching. This position will also be the main point contact for changes to the School’s Drupal based websites.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide consultation, assistance and technical expertise to faculty/instructors regarding web applications to support their teaching needs. In addition to direct work on web-based materials, the Web Computing Specialist will plan and provide learning management workshops and information sessions for faculty, instructors, and staff and will be available for individual consultation as needed. Workshops and information sessions will include training on UW Catalyst, Moodle and other web-based applications as appropriate. 40%
• Provide assistance and support for part-time Web Specialist at the School of Social Work in various web updating duties. 40%
• Create and keep up-to-date policies and procedures related to the Learning Management System. 10%
• Work closely with the part-time Web Specialist to develop course templates and revise as needed 5%
• Keep current on instructional technology trends 5%
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field or concentration or a Bachelor’s degree in and significant experience with social sciences or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with web development (CSS, XHTML, PHP, MYSQL, MSSQL, image editing)
• Advanced skills with building and theming Drupal Version 6.x including managing taxonomy based access and providing access training to content managers
• Experience with building Wordpress-based websites and blogs
• Exposure or willingness to learn and support learning management systems (e.g., UW Catalyst Tools, Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and/or Sakai)
• Knowledge of learning solution design and development, models, and tools
• Strong customer service skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation communication skills and patience
• Critical thinker with demonstrated creative problem solving skills
• Can work independently and as a team member
• Ability to track tasks to completion and ensure that they are carried out properly
• Ability to work well among diverse population

Desired: • Experience with podcasting and streaming video technologies
• Experience working in higher education settings
• Experience with developing and delivering training materials for faculty and staff in a group setting as well as one-on-one
