Types of events

The group holds regular monthly meetups. These are relaxed, informal get-togethers that are the primary outworking of our stated group aims:

To provide a forum for communication, organising events and encouraging Drupal loveliness.

Types of monthly meetup

It was decided by Steven Jones that each monthly meetup of the group should have some kind of theme or topic. No one had any serious objections, or were just too polite to raise them, so that is now how we roll.

The types are currently:

1. An intro to Drupal evening - The sort of thing that you can invite non-technical people to, and we basically show the glossy veneer of Drupal and never mention the rough edges!
2. Bring your problem - People bring their Drupal related problems, and we try to solve them.
3. Presentation/discussion evening - People propose presentations in advance and then we watch two of them, they don't have to be slick powerpoints, they can be as simple as: 'We should discuss mobile'.
4. A social evening - In a pub where we meet socially, talking about Drupal is of course allowed, but you can also go 'off-topic'.
5. Bring your problem - People bring their Drupal related problems, and we try to solve them.
6. Presentation/discussion evening - People propose presentations in advance and then we watch two of them, they don't have to be slick powerpoints, they can be as simple as: 'We should discuss mobile'.

This gives us a schedule of six months of events, and allows us to advertise far in advance. It also allows us to plan (hurrah!) After the six months following 1 to 6, we go back to 1 and start again, duh!

An introduction to Drupal

This should be a really simple a easy to understand introduction to Drupal evening. No prior knowledge should be assumed and it should be suitable for almost anyone with any web experience to come along.

This month we'll be giving an Introduction to Drupal.

Maybe you've heard about Drupal from a friend, or some random internet advert and want to know what all the fuss is about, or maybe you've tried to get going but are finding it hard. We'll aim to explain what Drupal is, where it fits in the online landscape and how to get going with it fast.

There will be a presentation about Drupal, followed by a chance to ask questions, both superficial and in-depth! If you've tried Drupal, and just need some help understanding some aspect of it, come along and ask.

You do not need to be a technical wizz to use Drupal, if you're reading this, then you're already more than qualified, come along and let us show you just how easy it is to get started.

Bring your (own) problem

This is crazy informal meetup that relies on people getting stuck doing things with Drupal, and then the group trying to solve them. This relies on having a good mix of people and skill levels in the group, and having someone good at organizing people!

This month's meetup is your chance to: 'Bring your Drupal problem' and get it solved!

All you need to do is turn up and be able to describe your problem and someone else from the group will help you solve it. Whether it's getting to grips with theming, arranging blocks the way you want or finding and organising Drupal events, we're here to help.

If you problem relates to a specific Drupal site that you're working on then it's really useful if you could bring it along on a laptop if possible so we can take a look and fix the issue there and then.

Presentation/discussion evening

This is a more formal type of meetup with maybe one or two specific speakers who can give a presentation or lead a discussion about a specific topic. If you can get these sorted so that they can be advertised with the event then that would be great!
