Granular site access for multisite installations
Is it possible to have granular access for multisite installations.
Consider the following setup:
A portal site called, for example - mypets.com
with the following subdomains(multisites) - cats.mypets.com, dogs.mypets.com, turtles.mypets.com
Assuming all users are registered with mypets.com, would it possible for admins to then grant access to subdomains?
I understand that's it's possible to share the user table, though I assume this would give users access to all subdomains? Can admins have granular control over access? Are there existing modules or snippets that anyone can recommend. If not, would this even be possible?
Thanks

Domain Access
Check out the Domain Access module. It implements its own multisite -- all one database, all one userbase - and can do exactly what you describe.
Thanks
I did have a look at Domain Access (Not yet installed) but was not sure if it was going to achieve the functionality as described.
Thanks for confirming that it will.
One more question...
Using Domain Access could an administrator assign a user access to one/multiple subdomains but not others?
Install it and kick the tires
Experiment and report back to us. I believe the answer is yes.
Will do
Look forward to putting this through it's paces and reporting back.
Thanks again for your comments ;)
That's correct. You can
That's correct. You can assign both editing and viewing permissions.
Organic Groups
You might try Organic Groups.
Thanks
Though I would be using organic groups as well as multisites
Will Collaborate
Have you made progress on evaluating this combination? I thint that I have a project that also need this approach. If we do indeed have similare requiremtnds I would be willing to work on plan to evalute this with you. I still have some questions about the permissions model for this configuration.
