George and I talked for 30 minutes this morning trying to wrap our heads around site config, coordination and version control, and modules and other general alumni happenings. We concluded that we think it is realistic that we get a 'brochure' site polished and running before Paolo's 90th gathering at Arco in mid June.
Specifically, I think it is realistic to get a paypal account hooked up to a button asking for donations to help the development of this site. The site itself is at first just going to be a place to share vision of where version 2 is heading and get feedback and ideas and HOPEFULLY some more hands to work on the code and design! I see this as being a synergy, ala Arcosanti!
The two large issues we face are adapting a CSS theme that George tweaked for D5, and needs to get working in D6. And also we want to have a jcarousel on the font page and we need to get that setup and running.
The majoy issue for version 2 of the site is to research and develop a good user profile system. We would like to enter the basic info for all the alum we know of(name and email), and have drupal send out a notifcation to the alum, then they can log in and fill in the rest of the (custom) profile page with more info that we spec out. other goals with alum, is to be able to roll in other alumni databases and make this dbase the de facto alumni database and community. this, obviously, is going to be a beast. We need your help!
