Main Talk

George Gomez (wakefulheart) is director of online development for Cesarsway.com; the popular website for Cesar Millan, star of the hit TV show The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan. During the 6+ years Gomez has been with Cesar he has help take cesarsway.com through its humble beginnings under cesarmillaninc.com to the hot and vibrant website cesarsway.com is today. It is no coincidence that Gomez and its team chose Drupal as their platform 3 years ago. In his talk Gomez will explain the successes as well as the challenges they faced during the last 3 years. Gomez will also explain how they been able to leverage drupal to work with their other 3rd party services which includes video delivery, ad networks, ecommerce and social media.

Shop Talk (20m)

Some big guns from Transparatech, Joel Farris (Senpai), Matt Young (redhatmatt), and Andrew Root (druroot) will take the stage for 20 minutes to talk about the best practices they teach their clients, which is the reason people like them! Stuff like:
--How to develop new features while not breaking the old ones.
--How to ask the right questions when building stuff so we don't have to re-do it three times by the end.
--How we interact with each other to keep making progress while not stepping on each other's toes and still remember to bill for it all.

Lightening Talks

We have time as well for lightning talks, which are 5-10 minute presentations from attendees who would like to share something with the group. If you'd like to give a lightning talk, be sure to come a few minutes early and bring your laptop (and power and display cables) and whatever else you need.

If you'd like to give a lightning talk, presentation, announce a job position or ask any questions of the group, please leave a comment below and plan to come a few minutes early.

Join us online remotely / We want your feedback!

During the meetup, we'll be gathered in the #drupal-la chat channel (IRC) or our live Google+ Hangout (Video), and all are welcome to join us. The event organizers will also check Twitter for feedback and questions that mention @ladrupal or use the #ladrupal hashtag.

Coders Lounge & Open Contrib Lab

Returning this year is our Coders Lounge + Lab; a second room dedicated to Drupal coding & contributing - perfect for learning new code hands-on, meet with Drupal mentors & a study group, co-work on a Drupal contrib project/issue, share a new hook, or follow along with your laptop (expect short training sessions).

Users Helping Users and open Q&A

The general meetup begins at 7:00pm but the doors open a little earlier at 6pm for Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bonafide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

As always, please feel welcome to leave a comment below and let others know what you'd like to present ahead of time.

Job announcements

At the beginning of each meetup LA DRUPAL provides an opportunity for local businesses to make job announcements and ask for referrals and recommendations.

Raffle! Prizes! Collect them all!

We love our sponsors and have several raffle prizes from our sponsors in the Los Angeles area and around the world. If you or your company would like to sponsor a raffle prize at the LA Drupal meetups, please come early or contact the LA Drupal managers.

Breakout Groups

As we've occasionally done, we'll split up into groups (sometimes called BoFs, or birds of a feather) and each group can jump into a particular topic that's set at the beginning of the meetup. The topics for these BoFs so far have ranged from high performance websites, Features-driven development, PCI compliance and general "getting started" discussions.

What to bring

Bring a co-worker, maybe your laptop or tablet, but definitely bring your business cards for networking. We do a lot of networking!

If anyone is interested, I can do a lightning talk on how we manage daily tasks between developers at ActiveLAMP to make sure we all know what each other is doing, and each persons daily goals.

It's not really a Drupal talk, more a project management talk.

I'm interested :)

announce job position Tuesday night?

photoscott's picture

hello - I own a Santa Monica based business, and I'd like to announce a Drupal job position at the meeting this Tuesday night, and ask for referrals and/or recommendations. By coincidence - I'm actually hosting a company dinner a couple blocks away that same night, so I'll duck out of the dinner to stop by the library, should I plan on stopping by at 7PM? Thanks! - Scott

Thanks to everyone that attended the talk. Some of you asked me for a copy of my slides. Feel free to email me and I will send them to you.

Your presentation slides

Benno Sebastian's picture

Hi George,

Thank you for a great presentation on Tuesday. I really like how you organized the website and I like to study some of the modules you are using. I am the guy who asked you for the slides so I can remember all the links. I love the fact that you replaced the comments with facebook comments. That's a really cool idea.

Thanks again. Hope to see you at some of the meet up's.
