(Volunteer) Head Developer/Architect | New Development | Next Generation Community Media Website focused on the Waterloo Region

Right now at Radio Waterloo Inc (CKMS-FM) we are working with joomla but we're looking to make the switch to drupal pending our work with the folks at vocalo.org. We have a tentative agreement that we're going to work together to foster similar awesomeness they made happen in Indiana/Illinois right here in the Region of Waterloo. We are still working out the details regarding code and how that will be managed but to make a long story short, we will be probably using their codebase (which is based on scald) and then customizing it for our needs. At the very least, even if we don't implement vocalo directly and completely, we would want to design a new site from scratch in drupal anyway. An exciting incentive: we have an awesome graphics designer who will commit pending he has awesome software people (like drupal-ites) to work with.

Is anyone interested to volunteer their time to work on this very exciting project? I will note that we are a registered charity!

Why Work on This Project?
* Help save a radio station!
* Help save community radio in general!
* Be on the cutting edge of New Media!
* Radio is awesome (you can perhaps get your own show)!
* Work is from scratch! Don't have to maintain shitty code!

Type of work to be done:
* working to understand needs of Radio station
* implementing a new website to reflect those needs in drupal
* work with graphics designer who will be doing wireframe

Funding Situation:
* We don't have money but we can do in kind work by advertising your services on the radio (Rogers 946, soundfm.ca and 100.3 FM in the Region of Waterloo)
* We will be viewed by many people as we will be going to a referendum situation come Fall of this year; this will give you a lot of exposure for your work.
* If we win the referendum, we can pay an honorarium.
* We could apply for a lot of grant funding given the type of activities we are doing
* It might help to know that we are a registered charity (perhaps that might be of use if you do this in sync with some work-place incentive program)!

Other Background info:
As you also have probably heard, the state of journalism and media (and ways to save it) is being debated around the world with traditional media forms (such as newspapers) falling by the wayside. Here at soundFM (CKMS-FM), we are no stranger to the stress of people questioning our relevancy.

The obvious need then: to innovate.
