Downloaded the amd64 yesterday, presuming it would work on my Intel Mac, sadly no such luck. Downloaded the i386 version and it installed beautifully and runs smooth at first sight.

32bit and 64bit images of quickstart work well.

Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V Pro
Mem: 8gb DDR3 corsair vengeance 1600
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k 3.4 running at 4.3 ghz of awesomness

Results:
64 bit works perfect after enabling Intel Virtualisation in BIOS and setting version to Ubuntu (64 bit) in vbox settings.

Windows 7 64 bit host. Alienware M15x Laptop.
--Intel Core i7 740QM Quad Core Processor, 1.73GHz (2.93GHz Turbo Mode, 6M Cache)
--8 Gig Ram
--Solid State Drive

Results:
64 bit Quickstart in VMWare: typically give QuickStart 2 processors, 4 cores, and 6.5 G of ram.

Suggestions:
I speed up Drush by increasing PHP's memory_limit in the cli php.ini. From the command line run: php -i to get its location.

Memory: 16 GB DDR3
OS: Mac OS X 10.7.4
