Finally, we have some dates and place for a next Drupalcon in Barcelona this September 2007:

Dates: 19th - 22nd, this is Wednesday till Saturday
Place: citilab in Cornellà (Barcelona) (http://www.citilab.eu)

google map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=cornella+barcelona+spain&sll=37....

See a picture of the venue: http://flickr.com/photos/garrigos/354219750/

We are planning to have three days of pure Drupalcon and a forth extra day for a Drupalshow, this is, a showcase for Drupal newcomers.

More news on this event here soon, so we can plan in advance.

Any thoughts? Leave them here.

Good choice...

dahacouk's picture

Seems like a great choice. It does really seem the place to be:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.cideu.org...

I'm guessing there'd be a lot of help from the city to make this event happen.

I'm also guessing that this venue is equipped with all the latest technology and has gazzillions of bandwidth.

A shame that it's so far out of town though:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=las+ramblas,+spain&daddr=cor...

Is there good public transport to the centre of town?

Still prefer later on in the month though... ;-/

Look forward to it!

Cheers Daniel

public transport

robertgarrigos's picture

I've always thought that our public transport in Barcelona is not as good as in London but... here it is how to go from Les Rambles to Can Suris, in Cornellà:

http://www.tmb.net/vullanar/en_US/resultatcerca.jsp?tipusrepre=0&origenx...

We found these to be the best dates to enjoy the city later, for the people whishing to stay during the weekend, as the 24th is the anual local festivity and there will be plenty of activities during all those days. You will be able to check its agenda here: http://www.bcn.cat/english/ihome.htm

My link to the Barcelona's public transport doesn't work (unless you change day and hour). If you want to check the public transport to the venue you can use this form:

http://www.tmb.net/vullanar/en_US/vullanar.jsp?cap=1

1.- Fill in the form.

Where I am section:
street: Pl catalunya (this is the center town)

Where I want to go section:
to (town): Cornellà
street: fontsanta

(check that the time you are using, on the right of the page, is a day time. If you use a night time it will give you night public transport timing. this form uses local time.)

2.- press the 'find your itinerary' button
3.- it will give you a few options to choose from. choose 'PASSATGE FONTSANTA' anc click the 'search the best itinerary'
4.- voila!

You can try with different 'from' addresses to check that there are a few options to get there. Don't use 'passatge fontsanta' in the 'to street section'. Just use 'fontsanta' and then choose the right option, otherwise it triggers an error.

There are different options to get to Cornellà:

'Cercanias' (spanish) or 'Rodalies' (catalan), which is a regional train. You will find train stations at Plaça Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia and Sants Estació. The regional train logo is something like a reversed white 'C' in a red circle. The colored number next to it is the train line. The line to Cornellà is the yellow 4. Then take the tram (T1 or T2) to Fontsanta/Fatjó

Metro. Two lines to get there:

Blue L5 (Diagonal tube station is closest to the town center) gets you to Cornellà (last stop). Then take the tram (T1 or T2) to Fontsanta/Fatjó
Green L3 (Catalunya tube station is closest to the town center) gets you to Maria Cristina station. Then take the tram (T1 or T2) to Fontsanta/Fatjó

All these combinations will take you 35-45 minutes to the venue from town center.

I will give some more details on the official drupalcon page when it's ready.

Hotel deals?

Wim Leers's picture

Will there be any hotel deals available? I believe there were some good deals available for DrupalCon Brussels 2006.

Word?

Any word on this? Time is creeping on, and I need to know what time to allot to this. Is there an entry fee? There's no mention of this.

Last Year Rosh Hashanah, This Year Yom Kippur?

Torenware's picture

I don't want to rag on this too much, but is it possible in future that someone involved with setting the dates for Drupal events check a calendar for Jewish holidays?

Last year's event was exactly over Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

This year's event ends on Yom Kippur, which starts Friday evening September 21st.

This is actually a big deal for Jewish Drupalers. It would be nice if for 2008 someone makes a check so this does not happen 3 years in a row.

Football, anyone?

ximo's picture

I see a football (yankee: soccer) pitch! Although it's not very green, this is great news :) Speaking of football, I encourage anybody going to this DrupalCon to pay Camp Nou a visit. I'm hoping for a home match on Saturday. All in all, I think it's wonderful that we'll have a DrupalCon in Barcelona, it's a city with a lot to offer.

Which of the houses is the venue?

conflict with RailsConf Europe 2007

amuzulo's picture

Ugh, I apparently missed the discussion on final dates. How final are they? In any case I want to mention that it conflicts with the RailsConf Europe 2007 in Berlin from 17-19 September. Guess I will have a very tough decision between the two, although I know at least one company that actively uses Ruby on Rails and Drupal. I guess I could fly directly from Berlin to Barcelona on Sep 19... Sorry for not seeing this vote earlier. :(

Actually, I just found a flight for 41 EUR from Berlin to Barcelona, so it works out. :) So, I want to buy this airline ticket. How sure are you of the DrupalCon dates?

Are these dates fixed now?

These dates are fixed as far

robertgarrigos's picture

These dates are fixed as far as I know.

And for the jewish Yom Kippur, I'm sorry, but we actually moved a few days later because of a comment (http://groups.drupal.org/node/1511#comment-3894) about a possible conflict with Rosh Hashanah. I wasn't aware of the Yom Kippur. In any case, I must say that these are the best dates we could find for a Drupalcon in Barcelona arround September. The evidence is that the next Open Office Conference, this year, will be held in Barcelona... the same dates!

Enable the Drupal module?

alanburke's picture

Would it be possible to enable the Drupal module at
http://barcelona2007.drupalcon.org/

It would mean we could login, use the forums there etc.
I assume that's where we'll register in advance too?

Thanks
Alan

No registration yet

Boris Mann's picture

There is no registration / sign up yet. You can post anonymously in forums.

Once registration is opened, the drupal module will be turned on as well. From our experience, user account creation without registration confuses people, so we won't open registration / user accounts until that is ready to go.

confusion

greggles's picture

It's 6 of this confusion vs. a half dozen of the other confusion.

I suggest you copy/paste this explanation into a block on the side of the forums. I was confused and know others were confused by the invitation to discuss and the inability to register/login.
