Theming Discussion Part Deux?
Although talking some Drupal 6 theming is always fun, it would be great to have a quick talk about theming in Drupal 7. There's a huge discussion going on at more granular theming that I'd love to talk with some of you about.
I love to talk about
I love to talk about theming, but you probably already know that. hehe :)

My favorite module/theme
I always get a great deal of benefit when someone takes a couple of minute to describe a module or recipe that has solved a problem for them -- like a mini case study.
For example, I use Insert Views all over my sites to allow non-technical content maintainers the ability to add text before and after a View without giving them access to Views and immediately making them think that Drupal has a usability problem. ;-)
Another one, Better Formats, also addresses the same issue and audience -- it removes the Input Format field group and assigns an input format based on role and/or content type.
While these tips are useful for the veterans, they are also very useful for new Drupal users so that they can get an appreciation for how Drupal can be morphed into being something that helps them tame the default install. New folks always hear that "Drupal can be anything you want it to be," but that's a lofty declaration -- "Yes, but how?" was what I was asking when I was first getting started.
I suggest that 20 or 30 minutes be set aside at each(???) meetup to go around the room and ask people if there is a module that they are excited about and how they are using it.
Thanks for the tips
I think your idea about sharing these tips is great. I'm from an area that has no Drupal groups (East Hampton, NY.) So I follow these posts as a "next best thing." I am pretty new to Drupal and kind of understand what you are saying in your two tips, but would it be possible to give an example? Maybe a screen shot? I apologize if I'm asking for too much. If I were at the meetings, I could just ask for clarification. In the future when you are sharing these wonderful tips, don't overestimate us newbies! Don't be afraid to give what to some might seem like to much information. And thanks for such great tips!
Dates, Time, Calandars, Events
Hello-
I am just moving back to NYC from Hong Kong and would like to meet the Drupal folks here.
I am particularly interested in talking with anyone who has a lot of experience with Events and Calendars, as it relates to a lot of my current work.
Hope to see you on the 15th!

Proposed Topic - Plans to go to DrupalCon Paris!
Anyone else going to Paris? Want to trade ideas to get the most out of the trip (and at lowest cost!)?
I'm excited to be going, but would love to group up with other folks to share apt or hotel costs to keep the overall trip cost down (and hey make new friends too!)
French for drupalers
I am going to Paris (almost home). I would be happy to share some thoughts on one of the most beautiful city of the world, or give a crash course french for Drupalers :)
Yay Drupalcon!
I've heard that Jacine is looking to go too!
Good idea... Gonna miss it though :(
I'm coming to Paris, but just found out I'm not gonna be able to make it into the city today after all :(
Another topic - NYC Camp 7??
Hopefully I'm not opening a can of worms on this one. Last conversation I saw we were thinking about looking for new venues to support a larger audience (or something like that).
Do we want to put a tentative (post Paris) date out there to shoot for?
I'm sure for example an October date would be great especially for all the NY folks who won't get to go to Paris. That will be right in the thick of Drupal 7 bug fixing season yes?
Anyway, just a thought.
can(s) of worms
A thought - have two meetings.
Have the new-to-drupal meeting on the evening before the regular meeting.
One benefit: New-to-drupal folk can attend the regular meetings. Last month I felt sort of torn - there were things going on in the regular meeting that would have interested me.
Another benefit (if in main space) John/others would have access to projector/screen and table-setup.
Themer's Guild
will be taking over the small tables outside the main conference area for n00bs
Maybe we can do an agenda first and split up before introductions: that way we have a smaller group for introduction = faster time to get to the good stuff

Snippets and Documentation
Oh
I got in touch with add1son about making the d.o snippet section sumthin to be reckoned with! She pointed me to http://drupal.org/node/488070 as a good place to start.
Also, she was talking about creating a mentoring program which is what we are doing with the Themer's guild. Any ideas or just wanna talk about it ~ run me down and beat it into my head!

spyderboy in search of hot themer
Hi there-
I really enjoyed the meetup yesterday. Although it was my first time attending in NYC, I felt very welcome... and you had some great tips for me! Very, very cool.
Sadly... I had to leave early. As I mentioned at the meetup, I am looking for a talented themer to work with on a contract project I am working on for a publishing company in Asia.
Our needs are:
Expert CSS
Expert with Form API and Theming
Expert with cross browser compatability (box model hacks for IE 6, etc)
Not really looking for Design or Module Development. Mainly tight CSS and layout based on artwork from our designers.
FYI, this is a relatively low budget operation... the magazines they publish are free city-guides. Think Village Voice or L.A. Weekly, but MUCH smaller. I have been working with this company from Hong Kong for a couple of years now. This is a small part of a much larger picture. We are just doing a few of the content channels on one of the city's magazines. There are 4 cities, and many products we could potentially work on once this is successful. I am NOT looking for a Themer to quote a loss-lead rate... please quote what you are reasonably willing to work for. If you are a solid themer, I believe the theming on this part of the project will go quite quickly.
The type of work involved will be setting up the display of content input forms as well as output for content types like Restaurant and Bar Reviews, Articles, etc etc.
Please send samples of your work, contact info, and rates. All work will be done remotely, and I will be working with the themer via email and sometimes Skype. Hours are flex.
Thanks again for the meetup yesterday... very inspiring and welcoming.
Cheers,
Antonio Licon

Great meeting
As I said last night, I got a lot out of looking at the new features in Drupal 7 and sitting around talking about best practices, favorite modules, etc. I wouldn't mind seeing this more often -- maybe half the meeting is reserved for formal presentations and the second is left for round table tips.
In fact, maybe during the first half, those new to Drupal can be in their own session and then return to the room for the 2nd half. I think that they would benefit from hearing all sorts of topics so they know what's possible. (Come to think of it, I've been doing this for two years and I'm in that boat, too!)
