Job Description: Drupal Developer
The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) seeks a creative, highly motivated person interested in and experienced with web development and graphic design. As the first Drupal Developer for the museum, this is an opportunity to be a key player in what may become a growing area.

NMNH, with 7 million physical visitors and 25 million web visitor sessions in 2007, is dedicated to inspiring curiosity, discovery, and learning about the natural world through its unparalleled research, collections, exhibitions, and education outreach programs. We are part of the Smithsonian Institution which includes 18 museums, the National Zoological Park, and nine research centers located in Washington, D.C., and its metropolitan area, New York, Cambridge, Mass., Fort Pierce, Fla., and Panama.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Support and expand the two soon-to-be-launched Drupal sites.
• Continue to expand their functionality to reach even more people.
• Work closely with the Education/Outreach team on evaluating, understanding, and deepening the user experience
• Work closely with the Web/IT team to ensure that new development stays closely aligned with overall Smithsonian objectives and strategies.

Skills:
• Expert Drupal, Drupal themes, php, mysql knowledge. Experience integrating, customizing Drupal modules, maintaining large multi-server Drupal environments, administration,and integration with various third-party sites with open APIs.
• Knowledge and experience using PHP, AJAX, Javascript, Flash, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Photoshop and integrating third-party API’s, RSS feeds, and webservices in developing large, highly visited websites.
• Understanding of web based video, audio, and graphic production and optimization.
• Thorough understanding of the LAMP-stack based architecture, systems development life cycle management, version control, application maintenance and support techniques, bug/issue tracking.
• Knowledge of web taxonomies, the semantic web and RDF.
• Extensive knowledge of social networking products/frameworks such as facebook, flickr, youtube, digg, etc.
• Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization techniques and web analytical software such as webtrends.
