A major federal agency is redesigning its public facing website using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP) stack based open source technologies and web 2.0 features. The goal is for the new site to push the new administrations and the department’s policies, messages and information to various stakeholders. The web 2.0 features such as bulletin boards, blogs and wikis will be used to provide a rich medium for the stakeholders to interact with the department.
Responsibilities:
The solution architect will be responsible for mapping requirements to solution components, some of which may be predefined. Where components have not been predefined, the architect will perform build vs. acquire analyses, research alternatives and drive component selection/build. The architect will define the application software architecture and the associated security model. The architect, working with the lead developers will research and instill in the development team members good design, coding and configuration management practices. Working with the project manager and the lead developer, the architect will be ultimately responsible for guiding the development and deployment of a state of the art, secure, scalable, web2.0 application that meets or exceeds the agency’s expectations of the new website. Please note that this is a hands-on position and will require the architect to write code in addition to providing software engineering leadership. Overall the architect will direct his/her efforts thus:
30% solution design and documentation
50% prototyping, coding, and helping the team overcome roadblocks
10% coordination/meetings
10% quality assurance/code reviews
Qualifications:
• Full software lifecycle experience using PHP and MySql.
• Subject Matter expert in Drupal content management system including custom module development. Experiential knowledge of core Drupal modules, CCK etc. Experiential knowledge of caching, performance tuning, fault tolerant/redundant LAMP architecture is required. Experience must include two or more full lifecycle Drupal projects of enterprise scale.
• 10+ years experience with at least 4 in a lead architect role. Deep domain experience in one or more of .NET or J2EE AND LAMP based software applications.
• Knowledge of role based security, design patterns and integration patterns is required.
• Skilled in architectural tradeoff analysis covering scalability complexity, maintainability and various industry standards.
• Prior experience leading 4 or more products/projects of $1M+ with an enterprise wide impact. Projects in federal government will be given higher priority.
• Experience documenting system architecture and conducting code/quality reviews is required.
• Knowledge of enterprise search such as Google will be an asset.
