Winnipeg Drupallers

Hi everyone,

I see this group has not had any activity in some time, so I thought I would ask....who is out there in Winnipeg that is interested in talking Drupal? Lets see a show of hands and get this group going.

Matthew :)

I'm always up for some Drupal

I'm always up for some Drupal chat!

Great

Hey VividWind,

Thanks for the response. Great to see fellow Drupal users/developers in Winnipeg. I love Drupal, it certainly has been a huge learning curve for me but I'm getting there and have developed a number of sites using this CMS. My experience in PHP etc is pretty patchy so I am learning as I go but I really want to develop my Drupal and PHP skills. I would love to know how you got involved with Drupal and what resources you have used to learn Drupal/PHP.

As a general question for all. Does anyone know if many developers in Winnipeg are using Drupal and if any specialise in it specifically?

Thanks,
Matthew

Drupal developers in Winnipeg

Hi Matthew,

I work for PeaceWorks Computer Consulting (www.peaceworks.ca) which has offices in Waterloo, Ontario and Winnipeg (I'm in Winnipeg). We do a lot of work with Drupal, everything from simple stuff such as setup and theming to more involved tasks such as development of custom modules and integration with other systems.

peace,
Jason

Hi Matthew, Good

Hi Matthew,

Good stuff...there is certainly a learning curve with Drupal. I've been working with Drupal for a little over a year now. The first time I played with it I basically hacked it to pieces without really knowing what I was doing. Shortly after, I built a site which was fairly involved, so I had the opportunity to really learn how to properly build and theme a site. I have yet to read an entire published book on Drupal (though it has been on my to-do list), so everything I have learned has been from online documentation, forums, and experimentation. I have a book on module development, so I am hoping to get into that sometime in the near future.

Cheers,

Steve

Hey Steve (or anybody

Hey Steve (or anybody else),

I have three Drupal books I can give you:

  • Pro Drupal Development
  • Using Drupal (O'Reilly)
  • Building Powerful and Robust Websites with Drupal 6

$20 for them all? If you're interested, we can meet at the Forks or some central location. Let me know.

Yours,
Chris

I am currently back in Oz,

I am currently back in Oz, though when I return to Winnipeg (no date set) I would be interested in talking drupal

Drupal Speed?

Hi all,

As I am learning and developing with Drupal I often find myself worrying about all the modules it takes to create larger more complex sites (e.g. e-commerce with lots of products and users). Having spoken to other web developers using CMS many of them are wary of using Drupal due to performance issues.

Do any of you have any tips for keeping Drupal fast? Obviously minimizing the number of modules will be the first step. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Matthew

I do drupal work part time

I do drupal work part time (still a full time student) but I would be very interested in having a drupal 'connection' in Winnipeg. Any one up for meeting for coffee?

Work in Winnipeg

I have been maintaining a web site for the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties on a volunteer basis.

You can check the site out at http://www.marl.mb.ca

We are currently looking for someone with Drupal experience to work on the site. The deadline for applications is today.

If you can get an application in today we can certainly take a look at it.

Sounds good

Would love to meet up with a a fellow 'peg Drupaller. I also might have work for Drupal developers on a sub-contract basis in the future.

Are you free any time between 9 and 12 Friday morning (May 21st).

p.s. Did you apply for the job above?

Mat

I am only free in the evening

I am only free in the evening as I work full time in a non-drupal job.

Hey Matt I would love to take part but Im a newbie of the first order. I have built a site and been puttering with it for a while but am now ready to ask a experienced person or two to help nail down a few concepts that I am not getting around right in my head.

Suffice to say I am trying to figure out the simplest way to get a pic in to text and having a heck of a time - I suspect I have too may WYSIWYG options installed in all/modules and need some basic help.

So yeah I am in for a little Drupal talk in the peg you say where and when!

Use the insert module

Hi I think its better to use the insert module you just need to have an updated cck so that you can use it easily. and also if you are using a wysiwyg module try Ckeditor.

here are the links

http://drupal.org/project/insert
http://drupal.org/project/cck
http://drupal.org/project/ckeditor

Thanks for that

I guess I was confused by the CKeditor and the inherent abilities of the CCK so I since aadded alot of wysiwyg modules trying yui under wysiwyg and I can manipulate text and add images in th filtered html mode but it won't save it when I click save and I don't know why at all.

Thanks for the advice its time to remove some modules I think.

Cheers,

DF

Its because

Definitely it will not save the images and the text format that you did because you are using filtered try to use full html
