In reaction of this discussion here http://drupal.org/node/1821062 it's a waste of time. We need to stop it and focus on next actions that benefit Vietnam User Group on Drupal.org. I want to understand first what do members want and then act accordingly. Everybody is encouraged to help finding the best solutions for our community.
First of all we need to come to an agreement of common goals:
Goal 1: Grow Drupal's adaption as CMS tool.
Goal 2: Support the local user group by getting the right administrators on board
Goal 3: Grow Drupal as a community in Vietnam and reach 2.000 members by 2014
Goal 4: Improve quality of our community by contributing back to Drupal
Goal 5: Increase international interactions and collaboration
I am happy to receive more inspiration, feedback on these.
About Goal 1:
Everyone can contribute to this goal in many ways.
- Developers build websites for clients with Drupal.
- Give more training for newbies.
- Organize many more regional events or sponsor those.
- Change the perception of Drupal as powerful Open-source solution for businesses and organizations.
About Goal 2:
Required characteristics of a qualified community admin:
- Passion: It is voluntarism so you do it with love for the Drupal community and your actions are primarily aimed at helping others and growing the strength of this group.
- Vision: Have demonstrated their credibility and ability to lead the community to going the right direction to become one of the most active Drupal groups.
- Skills: You have strong hard and/or social skills to be easily identified as respected Drupaler.
About Goal 3:
First off: This group will stay open. Always!
To prevent this group can be closed again, we need to adhere to following common sense rules:
- Members who have ADMIN ROLE, are never allowed to kick other members, unless you can prove efforts of explaining and waring these unwanted members before cancel their membership.
- The GROUP MANAGER ROLE, who is able to shut down the group, isn't allowed to do CLOSE this group again. It is his responsibibility to pass his role to one of the remaining admin, who is interested and qualified to continue managing this group.
Encourage every member to spread Drupal to new users and make them join and happy to stay. Best next action is to start regional meetups on regular basis.
About Goal 4:
We need to identify and empower more REAL TALENTS (meaning hardcore Code Savants!) to get involved in Drupal (instead of other boring projects) and make them happy to stay in the community.
WHY? Because only these gifted coders can make a difference and can contribute world-level code Made In Vietnam back to the maturing Drupal project.
About Goal 5:
Drupal Vietnam group will be an effective bridge to connect Drupalers from all over the world with Vietnam. With more members, better English skills and more Drupal training and events, we will make it happen.
In the end, the community will identify certain activists, that fit those traits. And I try my best to engage those exceptional members, make right judgement and promote admins to support with achieving the above goals.
