Jr. Developer | Purpose Campaigns

Purpose Campaigns is an international team based in New York that builds cutting-edge social and political movements. Our principals David Madden and Jeremy Heimans co-founded GetUp.org – an Australian online political movement that is now larger than all Australia’s political parties put together and www.avaaz.org/en/, the world’s largest online political community with more than 3.3 million members (a partnership with MoveOn.org).

Purpose Campaigns is currently advising advocacy groups and progressive companies around the world and is also incubating new issue-based movements. We’re a new, unusual and evolving combination of an agency and a home for political and social entrepreneurship. Most recently we’ve launched http://livestrongaction.org, a movement platform designed to raise awareness around the fight against cancer.

We’re looking to expand our team. We are looking to fill at least one full time position, perhaps two if we get the right applicants. We also have some project work available.

Jr. Developer:
The Jr. Developer is responsible for implementing code and configuration changes throughout the web properties that make up any given movement, conforming to the Purpose Campaigns coding standards, doing technical discovery research when applicable, and identifying and fixing bugs and problem areas in existing code. It is important that new team members be passionate about online advocacy and excited about the progressive mission of Purpose Campaigns with a keen interest in new ways to use technology to build large-scale, sustainable movements.

The Jr. Developer will report directly to the Lead Developer or Project manager as needed, as well as be expected to use the Lead and Sr. Developers as resources to expand their personal skill set.

Desired Skills (1-3 years experience in):

• Drupal, drupal, more drupal.
• PHP
• Javascript
• CSS
• Mysql
• Experience working in an SVN environment
• Experience working in a goldmaster environment (dev->staging->production)

Extra Points for:

• Linux Command Line experience
• BASH scripting
• Experience working in a clustered server environment
• Mysql query Optimization
• Memcache, Boost, Squid, APC, and any other Drupal scaling peripherals.
• System Administration/Hosting experience
