Plan for Boise Code Camp Drupal sessions

jeremy.zerr's picture

What is the plan for presenting any Drupal at Boise Code Camp? It's coming up in one month. Maybe this has already been discussed in person by some folks, but I haven't seen it on here yet.

If you have submitted a session, or plan to submit a session, I'd encourage you to post it here.

I'm planning to do a presentation on Drupal performance tuning, but have not submitted it officially yet.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Thanks for mentioning this,

Thanks for mentioning this, you should definitely submit your performance tuning session.

I submitted a couple talks, not sure if they're in line with the 'code' part of code camp, but they do fit into a Drupal track idea:

"Powering a Lean Startup With Drupal" and

"Laying it all out with Panels, Views and Context" (or something like that)

I'd love to have more Drupal peeps at the camp. :)

Cheers!
Chris

Boise Code Camp Drupal Track

Hi Guys and Gals, I just got out of meeting of the BCC organizing committee and we are really hoping that you could put together a Drupal track like we did a couple of years back. Our concern is that BCC is only 3 weeks away now March 16th so we really need to find out the who and what of presentions for this years BCC. Chris, I saw your two presentations posted up there and that is awesome but we need more to create a full Drupal Track. The committee was really impressed with what we did before with a Drupal Track and the response of the attendees so lets see if we can do it again.

Possible Drupal session topics

How about create a sample web project that you walk people through creating in the hour we have. Like "Creating a Project Management Site Using Drupal". Where you start from bare Drupal (no distro), you walk through creating a site that would allow users to add "tasks" with priority and assign people (user relationship + views + draggable views), with the associated views (My Tasks, All Tasks), and add an "event" to a calendar (date + calendar + views) and other views like My Events. Maybe use panels/context if time allows to spruce the display up.

Probably lots of other sample sites that could be created, like a Organic Groups based meetup site, or even more entertaining to build up the basics of a Boise Code camp site in Drupal (submit & approve sessions, calendar, donations, social login).

Or, how about showing use of Commerce to create a store to sell digital and physical goods. Something that would highlight how easy it is to create an e-commerce site with Drupal and how flexible the setup is (covering things like recurring fees, coupons, gift certs, etc and what is possible). Maybe using Commerce Kickstart would be easier, but doing from core Drupal shows the full capabilities and is more instructional in nature I think.

Just some ideas...

Also, some other

Also, some other thoughts:

  • Features: I know you've talked about this before at the DUG meetings.
  • Security: How Drupal is secure, how you can break it and fix it
  • Experience: About your experience using Drupal in various projects (some pretty large-scale)
  • APIs: This is a code camp, talking about the various APIs that let you do things like spin up forms and such would be pretty cool.
