Programmer - Web Developer, Exempt Contingent II Position, full-time, 12-month appointment
Department: College of Arts & Humanities
Starting Salary: Commensurate with qualifications in the mid to upper 40’s
Duties: The College of Arts & Humanities is seeking an energetic, team-oriented junior programmer to assist with the enhancement of the newly launched College website and the development of new web applications. The position will assist in identifying the requirements, design, implement, test, and deploy web applications and enhancements that will meet the College’s strategic goals. The primary duties include: 1) design and develop brand new web application, maintain and port existing web applications; 2) design and implement new web 2.0 features and enhancements with open source content management system Drupal for the College's newly developed website; 3) evaluate and/or adapt new web technologies or software products; and 4) interface with faculty and staff in supporting their web-related needs. The College of Arts & Humanities is one of the largest colleges on University of Maryland, College Park campus and consists of 15 departments and 5 centers, with more than 5000 students and 300 faculty members.
Qualifications: To qualify, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in web and application development with PHP/MySQL or other web programming languages/databases. Candidates must have experience with or knowledge of PHP, Ajax, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Perl, MySQL, Postgres, and Dreamweaver. Experience with or knowledge of open source content management system Drupal is highly desired. Knowledge of Object-Oriented and software engineering concepts are also desirable. Experience with IDE tools such as NetBeans and Eclipse are also desirable. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in a team. Candidates must be highly motivated, be familiar with various web 2.0 technologies, and enjoy learning new web technologies. Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines is required. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to details are also required.
