Call for devrooms launched: different approach in 2010
Fosdem launched this morning it's call for developer rooms for Fosdem 2010 (taking place 6 & 7 februari 2010 in Brussels).
This year the room will not be exclusively about one opensource project (e.g. "drupal") but about one topic (e.g. "CMS")
Quote:
"As every year we only have a limited number of
rooms, yet every year more and more individual distributions request a
Developer Room at FOSDEM. We do not want to have to choose between them, but
instead push our mission of a collaboration platform and cross-pollination
even further. We will host mixed distribution rooms where talks and sessions
will be organized by topic. Contributors from all distributions are welcome
to join in order to participate, attend, propose topics and sessions. To do
so, please subscribe to the distro mailinglist [1]."
The deadline for the proposal will be November 22 2009.
Will we be organizing a CMS-room in February?

Of course. FOSDEM is a great
Of course. FOSDEM is a great occasion to make Drupal known, to meet other Drupallers and to learn and teach about Drupal.
Organizing a CMS-room
Yes, let's organize a CMS-room :-)
I think we should try to divide the proposal in some generic topics, ex:
"Security in OS CMSes"
"Easy administration/usability in OS CMSes"
"Different ways to translate your CMS"
...
For all these topics several CMSes probably have different approaches we can all learn from.
(The call can be found here: http://fosdem.org/2010/call-developer-rooms)
"Build custom content types
:P
but seriously: i think a cms dev room can work
it can be very interesting for people that are not involved in any CMS project to see CMS's compared
how are we gonna proceed?
do we (local drupalfolks) write the devroomproposal and invite other projects to join?
i don't remember other OS CMS-es being active at FOSDEM ...
here is the draft

loosely inspired by last years
please add some of your interesting thoughts
i ll post a mail to the fosdem devroom distri list to see if anyone is interested in sharing the room with us
Focus on OS CMS means shift towards integration issues?
I really liked this years (2009) presentation in the Drupal room. Would add more technical stuff as a preparation of good service and support on Drupal production sites: SVN, coding standards, security. Just thoughts.

The devroom will be organized by the members of the Drupal community that organized the Drupal devroom at earlier FOSDEMs.
We hope other OSCMS projects will join (especially typo3, joomla, wordpress and zope). If you know of any interested parties, please let us know (via http://groups.drupal.org/fosdem). We will invite other projects by posting a call on their websites.
About Drupal:
Drupal is a modular, open source CMS built on PHP/MySQL. Tens of thousands of people and organizations are using Drupal to power scores of different web sites, including websites like een.be, whitehouse.gov, robbiewilliams.com, rutgers.edu, et cetera.
Drupal is going through turbulent times:
* Drupal 7 is to be released beginning of 2010 (Heck, who knows maybe during(!) Fosdem
* Drupal 7 will see huge improvements in usability (and general user-friendliness)
* the Drupal community is growing explosively with sold-out conferences of 1400 participants in Washington DC last spring and 900 particpants in Paris last fall. There is also a noticable increase in Drupal-events all over the world.
