DrupalCon Paris 2009: You are the event!

First of all a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us so far with preparing, organizing and spreading the word about DrupalCon Paris 2009, all over Europe and even internationally.

This is your event! You are the community. You are the ones who represent Drupal and we want to have you, the representatives, join us in Paris.
So we need your help to spread the word even “louder” and make the DrupalCon even more Drupalicious, for you.

Because:

you, the community, are the core!

you, the community, make the decisions

you, the community, decide where Drupal is going.

Here some carrots, that will lead your way to Paris in September:

Sessions and keynotes: Variety, excitement, learning.

Job fair: Yes, we think about your future. Pitch yourselves! :)

Day care: Your little ones can be part of the Drupal experience.

Healthy food: We try to make it tasty for your taste buds.

Sports activities: Hardcore community jogging to relaxing Pétanque.

T-Shirt contest: The ultimate Drupal tradition. (get ready for this!)

and there will be more to come, so keep checking the site!

Code sprint to improve User experience for Drupal 7 - Mid-August at The Economist, London

The thought came up a couple days ago, during the conversation with Robert Castelo.

We could use our office space in Holborn, Central London. I'd suggest evenings Monday 17th to Friday 12st of August, from 6pm onwards.

Let's focus on improving the user experience on Drupal.

There's no agenda yet.

Your thoughts are welcome!

NWDUG May Meet-up

We're at Manchester University again this month, though there has been a room change due to exams. This month it's at the Samuel Alexander building, room A202, University of Manchester, just off Oxford Road.

It'll make life easier if we can meetup at the Kro Bar opposite the Students Union and then head over to the Samuel Alexander building together.

Admission is free, and you're welcome to bring your Drupal questions and problems, as well as any projects you'd like to demo.

This month there'll definitely be discussion about the upcoming DrupalCampUK.

We usually have a good turnout of people, ranging from complete beginners with the software to full-time developers, so if you're looking to learn more about Drupal, this user group is a great place to start.
We like to have a mix of demos, breakout sessions and general Drupal banter with time for questions and one-on-one help.

Thanks again to Farzana and the National Centre of e-Social Science for organising the venue.

There's been quite a lot of request for a Zen theming session (http://drupal.org/project/zen) so wanted to know if this is something that most of you will be keen to come along to? if there is enough people that wish to attend, i'll see what can be done, ie:

A date most of you can attend

A free venue to host the session or any company wanting to sponsor this event.

If you would like to contact me direct to discuss this further, please use: http://drupalscotland.org/contact

Future Events

Drupal For NGOs has been away for a few months but will now restart as a regular event hosted at a different venue each month. Thanks to Rob Purdie who did an excellent job of starting Drupal For NGOs, and has now moved to New York. Hopefully he can take part via a live connection. Rob has passed on responsibility for organising the event to Robert Castelo, and if you'd like to host Drupal For NGOs or have any other suggestions please contact Robert.

Note

The event will be limited to 100 attendees. If it fills up before you get a ticket, please get in contact to let us know we need to get a bigger venue for the next event. Also note that there is a pub below the venue, where the meeting will likely move afterwards.

The tag for this event is drupal4ngos200904, and all presentations will be available after the event.

amember/paypal/drupal 6x integration needs fixing | Radar Music Videos

I have a one-off job that needs doing. If this is your area of expertise, please could you contact me with an estimate of how long it would take you to resolve, your rates and references from similar jobs. We have a drupal developer who looks after the whole site, but we are finding this particular area tricky to sort.
Many thanks, below is a brief description,
Caroline
@radarmusicvideos.com

www.RadarMusicVideos.com
We've got problems with recurring subscriptions and amember ie although amember is set to send alerts 7 days before expiry, it doesn't seem to be kicking out resubscription alerts to director usertypes. Which is a problem!

I'm looking for someone to hire to 'clean' our amember/drupal/paypal integration. It needs to be done pretty much now, as there's a big batch of director members who are coming to the end of their annual period.

All members who are 'director member' or 'upgrade to director member', no matter what the period type, the payment system type or receipt number type, should be sent a 'membership due to expire' email with a link to their paypal account. If membership is not renewed, they need to be marked as expired in amember and their account disactivated in drupal (blocked?)

Currently, no emails seems to be going to any director members, no matter what their period type, payment system or receipt number.

Alongside this, there is a large discrepancy between the number of different user groups in amember and drupal, eg drupal thinks there are 145 more director types than amember thinks there are.

Interested in creating a website to promote your music?

The Roundhouse and the London Drupal community are pleased to invite you to Drupal For Musicians. An event introducing Drupal, demonstrating some of it's features that are useful for musicians, and showcasing Drupal websites from small personal sites through to large band sites.

We'll cover:

Music - let visitors listen to your tracks

Images - creating galleries

Videos - play videos on your site

Events - promote your live events

eCommerce - sell online

Creating a community - let fans talk to you as well as each other

Keeping fans informed - let fans subscribe to news about you

For anyone thinking about Drupal or already using it, this event is also a great chance to learn from the experience of other musicians, put your questions to the experts, and connect with the Drupal community.

LinuxExpo 2008

This year's LinuxExpo was a lot quieter than previous years (maybe it was the credit crunch kicking in), but we still met lots of interesting people and had some great conversations.

Damian Carvill from Packt Publishing stopped by to give us a stack of new books on Drupal, which I think gave a good impression as we seemed to have the most literature of any of the stands, even the commercial ones (well, apart from the bookshop stand at the other end of the hall). Thanks Damian!

Jonathan from the Natural History Museum stopped by to let us know they are using Drupal on one project, are now looking at further use and keen to get involved with the Drupal community. We also had visitors from some high profile universities who are using Drupal in various ways, and the possibilities of a Drupal For Education event was discussed.

Not having many visitors gave us a chance to talk to each other, and to other Open source projects who where exhibiting. One of the highlights for me was someone from the Joomla team, an author of a book on Joomla, giving us a demonstration - it really made me appreciate the advantages of Drupal's architecture and I spotted a few ideas we can quite easily borrow from Joomla.

Thanks to everyone who came, was great to see you all, and check out the photos.

NWDUG October Meeting

Admission is free, and you're welcome to bring your Drupal questions and problems, as well as any projects you'd like to demo.

We usually have a good turnout of people, ranging from complete beginners with the software to full-time developers, so if you're looking to learn more about Drupal, this user group is a great place to start.

We like to have a mix of demos, breakout sessions and general Drupal banter with time for questions and one-on-one help.
There's the added option of moving on to a nearby pub for refreshment, usually The Old Monkey...

http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/1200594/

Developer | WWOOF UK (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms)

Here is a request for proposals for a project to create an online database and website for WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) UK.

Feel free to submit a proposal for this project and get in contact with any questions, recommendations and suggestions. If you know of anywhere else we could publicise this, then feel free to repost it there or let me know and I will.

In case you haven't heard of WWOOF, it is a great non profit organisation that lists organic farms and small holdings that want to have people come and volunteer with them and learn about organic agriculture in exchange for board and lodging. It was started in the UK in 1971 and there are now lots of WWOOF organisations all around the world (see http://wwoof.org for more details).

I am a director of WWOOF UK and am helping them choose a contractor for this work (otherwise I would probably be bidding for this myself).

And if you feel like some time away from your computer, I definitely recommend WWOOFing for a weekend/month/lifetime - it's pretty good fun.

We are delighted to invite you to Drupal For Enterprise, an event focusing on the common benefits and challenges of using Drupal in a business organisation.

London Web Week

Seven days of web design and development events, taking place in central London from 26th May to 1st June, 2008.

A not-for-profit scheme, the aim of London Web Week is to promote the events within it, to raise the profile of the web industry and community both within London and further afield, and to highlight best practices in web design such as accessibility considerations.

Conferences, workshops, social events and more will provide a range of educational and inspirational activities for web design enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners to professionals. The 10+ events will see big, established conferences side-by-side with numerous smaller events taking place in central London during the daytime and evenings.

LWW is an umbrella for each event which, with the exception of Web Roots, are autonomously run by independent individuals, communities, and companies. There is still room for more events and we encourage potential event organisers to get in touch. Please see the Participate page for more details.

London Web Week is organised by a committee made up of several of the organisers of the events within it. If you would like to contact us, please don’t hesitate to drop us an email at info@londonwebweek.co.uk

Drupalcon UK

I think it would be awesome to have a UK drupalcon in 2009 or 2010. Does anyone have any ideas for where we could have it?

I talking to Warwick University about how much it would cost to hold it there (1200 delegates max.) but has anyone else got any ideas?

Would there be people to help out with the organisation of it, and willing to find sponsors etc?

Answers on a postcard.

Introductions

I thought it'd be perhaps good for us to introduce ourselves and see where people are, seeing as there 100+ members of the group.

I'm kelly, live in the midlands, near coventry. I'm reasonably new to drupal, not a developer (as in PHP), but build sites with it and enjoy working with it.

I hang out in the freenode #drupal-support IRC channel quite often, helping if I can.

I'm 29, currently not working, and have a number of interests, including music, science fiction/fantasy, history, reading, computing, gaming and crafts amongst other things.

I think that should do to start us off :)

Social Innovation Camp - London Drupal Drop-in April

The April Drupal Meetup in London will join with the first evening of Social Innovation Camp (http://sicamp.org). Come along and talk about how Drupal can help make the world a better place.

The camp is open to people from all faiths, so there will be some Joomla and Ruby types there. This will mean that talk will probably be a little more generic than usual, but it should still make for a very interesting night. Hey, why not hang around for the whole weekend.

More information on http://www.sicamp.org
