Lead Web Programmer | The Kansas City Star/KansasCity.com
KansasCity.Com and The Kansas City Star, a McClatchy newspaper with a long history of journalism excellence, have an opportunity for a Lead Web Programmer. The Web Programmer uses PHP and SQL to develop advanced Web applications in a UNIX environment and will coordinate with other Information Technology staff. The Web Programmer also will work closely with the newsroom of The Star to create online journalism projects, investigations and databases for more than 2 million unique visitors a month on KansasCity.com, the region's most popular Web site.
Responsibilities include:
• Develop PHP and SQL scripts to create fully searchable, complex, dynamic web databases.
• Troubleshoot existing scripts and suggest enhancements.
• Document scripts, forms and procedures and train staff on how to maintain and use them.
Minimum qualifications include:
• BS degree including coursework in computer science, or equivalent of 4 years of full time programming experience in a production environment.
• Expertise with PHP, PERL, Javascript, HTML, DHTML, XHTML, XML, AJAX and CSS. Work samples will be required.
• Expertise in SQL programming for the web and in developing web forms. Work samples will be required.
• Experience with database and system design concepts.
• Knowledge of integrating multimedia on the web.
• Excellent testing and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Excellent time management and verbal and written communication skills.
Desired qualifications include:
• Knowledge of integrating multimedia (audio, video, etc.) on the web.
• Knowledge of Drupal content management platform.
• Knowledge of Google Maps APIs.
• Knowledge of UNIX, Linux, Apache.
